Shirt TRADITION broken

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Shirt TRADITION broken

Post by the_gooner89 »

The old Arsenal tradition...

The captain picks whether the team wears Long or Short sleeved.

That tradition was sadly broke today.

If you study the match highlights you will notice every player is wearing a short sleeved top... apart from EBOUE who apeared in long sleeved, SHAME!!!

Did anyone else realise or can explain why the tradition has been broken.

Shame is right! :( We are a club built on tradition!

F*cking Eboue, he probably needed the long sleeves to soak up all the blood from the "elbow" that Carragher nearly killed him with...

I ALSO NOTICED IT DURING THE LIVE SHOWING OF THE GAME AND I'VE GOT TO SAY I ALSO GOT UPSET WITH IT - SURPRISING EVEN MYSELF!!

BEFORE TODAY I DIDN'T THINK I WOULD BE ONE FOR WORRYING TOO MUCH WHAT THE PLAYERS WEAR, BUT I THINK KNOWING OF THE CLUB TRADITION AND THE FACT THAT IT'S BEEN KEPT GOING FOR SO LONG MADE ME REALISE HOW IMPORTANT EVEN LITTLE THINGS LIKE THAT ARE TO MAKING US STAND OUT FROM THE REST. 8)

SEEING EBOUE BREAK THAT TRADITION WHEN EVERYONE ELSE DEEMED IT FIT TO WEAR SHORT-SLEEVES PISSED ME OFF - MORE THAN IT SHOULD HAVE REALLY!! :x  SAD, I KNOW, BUT HONESTLY THE TRUTH OF HOW I FELT WHEN I FIRST BECAME AWARE OF IT.

I HOPE SOMEONE AT THE CLUB HAS A WORD IN THE DRESSING ROOM SO THAT IT'S NEVER REPEATED AGAIN!!

Eboue can't even use the 'its colder here than where I come from' excuse. Kolo seems fine with it.

How was he allowed to break the tradition?

Just wear short sleeves, don't be a weakling!

im unsure whether this was picked up on, but in the first half Eboue was wearing a short sleeved top, and only in the 2nd half did he put on his long sleeves: maybe it was the 'blood' from the carragher challenge!!

Still, i dislike eboue, he is far too theatrical and a pitiful excuse for a right winger, so any reason to flog him is great news to me!!

Its a disgrace to the game when players like Eboue dive.

Many who aren't fans see it as a weak sport already. This doesn't help. Especially when sports like league and union have players beaten to unconsciousness that come straight back into the game.

I truly despise Eboue, he's an embarassment to our team! Although I was too far away to see who it was down in the box I knew it was Eboue as soon as I saw the way they were lying down like a bloody corpse!

Watching on Motd made me want to vomit, this man is a disgrace to the game and isn't even that good a footballer, yes he's got some skills and can have a great touch but he gives the ball away too easily and we could certainly do without his theatrics!

This is the first AFC player I can remember that I have genuinely hatefor a long time, even if they play shit I may dislike them a little but they are still a Gooner, this man is just a clown.

If I wouldn't lose my post count I'd be tempted to rival IHH and become IHE! - Hey it may even make him change into one of the best players in the prem, worked with Hleb!!

When Wenger boughr Sagna i was delighted because i thought we would see the last of the drama queen that is Eboue.Wenger needs to get him in his office and read the riot act to him.He is a embrassment to our great club. The slightest touch and he goes down like he has been shot by a sniper.

Funny, I don't remember people laying into Pires when he was diving all the time.

i cant see how eboue and pires can be compared,, ok so bob fell down a bit and the penalty v portsmouth  but eboue is a cheat,,and hate saying it about any arsenal player but he's the one constant that you know he will throw himself down  he's a coward when it comes to any 50-50 ball and i cant see what he brings to the team

Pires didn't get into face-holding histrionics, that's true, but that Pompey penalty was only the most obvious bit of his diving. Don't get me wrong, I loved Bobby, and I don't like Eboue overdoing things, but I think Eboue's copping too much shit. Pires, as well as other heroes like Ljungberg and Bergkamp, were regular cheats. So perhaps we should be a bit more honest about why we don't like Eboue, ie. we don't think he's good enough so we can't tolerate his cheating the way we could the cheating of the players who performed to higher standards.

I also don't think Eboue is the greatest either at right back or right midfield, especially given how eratic his passing can be, but he has a fantastic cross, is one of the best we have at driving into the penalty area (look at what he did when he shot and hit the post yesterday) and can be as effective as anyone else we have when his passes work. I'm not sure he has a future at Arsenal, I just think credit (and insults) should be given where they're due.
