I've done something stupid

Some guy made an obscene comment about my girlfriend last night at the pub, he lives in the same street as me and I'd had a few beers so when we both got outside my house I squared up to him. I shouted at him and then smacked him in the face...he ran inside his house and I kicked his front door and bruised up my toe!
Now my parents (who I still live with!) are mad at me, my girlfriend is thinking about ending our 2 and a half year relationship and I'm so annoyed at myself. Should I have hit him though?

Yeah she probably has a right to be pissed at you if you kicked down someone's door in a drunken stupor, someone who was clearly avoiding a confrontation (even though he brought it on himself).

I really have no problem with the initial smack though, I like when smart mouths get what they deserve. That being said, also depends how bad it was...

It's not the sort of thing most decent girls find attractive in a perspective partner, so she may well dump you.
If she doesn't then your neighbour may well have been spot on with his comments.
