Cesc staying for life

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Cesc staying for life

Post by Chippy »

In the Sunday Times today there is a long interview with Cesc. he says the reason he is scoroing goals is because of the Flaminal and Alex! But most importantly he says when asked about going to Barca he said
“Sometimes I read things written by people who know nothing about me. They say I’m confused because I don’t want to go back to Arsenal, I want to come to Barcelona – but this is just rubbish. All I can say is that I’m very happy. I love Arsenal, the club, the fans, my teammates. I want to stay. If it’s for the rest of my life, all the better.â€

Chippy there are dreams and then there are impossible dreams and yours my friend belongs in the latter catagory. If we get 2 more seasons of cesc we will be lucky (and priviledged)

sorry chippy but im with augie on this one,, he's going to want to return home before its to late in his career and the reason he signed a big contract was so the club would get a fee for him,, 2-3 seasons and then a big contract with barce

I'm not totally naive but i do think a lot will depend on the relative strengths of the two teams at the time. If this young crew fulfill their potential and are winning major trophies every season and cesc is made captain after big willy.....
If at the same time Barca are going through a fallow patch, not winning trophies and losing to the likes of getafe, I think we could get a lot more years out of him.
One thing I'm pretty sure of, he ain't going to go to Madrid or anywhere else for that matter.

Sorry 2 smooth but I have to respond to your last commentin which you stated that Arsenal are big enough to have world class players and I would like to ask you in who's eyes are we big enough ? In the fans eyes most certainly we are but in the eyes of the players, the media and even the boardroom ? I dont think so. Every single time the barca's or real madrids of this world come knocking our players heads are turned and the commitment of the players in question slides and we end up selling them(on the cheap I might add). The media will always big up the likes of the above clubs and even manure & the scousers above us so they dont see us as a big enough club to hold worldclass players either. Lastly our beloved board  Why is it these people never tell the big clubs that are sniffing around our players to sling their hook ? Why is it that they never go after any of these clubs when they illegally approach one of our players ? Seems to me that they are intimated by these "big clubs" and cower down to them so again this is not the attitude of a big club.

Much as we all like to think we support a massive club good enough to stand toe to toe with europes finest I think deep down we know that we need to win a champs lge or 2 before we will rightfully feel that we belong.

PS I should also point out that it was easier to keep a world class player like DB10 after he had been badly burned by his experiences playing in Italy so therefore he knew the importance of playing somewhere that you feel comfortable. As for TA6 I have to say that as much as I loved him he wasnt world class. He was a world class capt and we will never see the likes of him again but a world class player ? I'm afraid not

Not for the first time, I agree 100% with Augie. Couldn't have put it better myself. I reckon we'll get a few more years out of Cesc and then he'll move on. If he wants to go home, you can't deny him that. We should all just be grateful that we got to see a player of his talent play for our Club and enjoy it while he's here!

I think as long as Arsene Wenger is there Cesc will be. Cesc respects Arsene fully and is aware of what Arsene has done for him.

Players come and players go........three years ago we would have all been at the razor blades if we was told Thierry was leaving! Are we though...nah I don't think so!

Cesc is a genius for his age and he has to be the hottest player of his generation in Europe! The chances of us holding on to him for three seasons more I would put as remote! You can't blame him either....we all have dream jobs and why should he be different? I love other European cities but I know afte a few years there I would wanna get back to Blighty!

Just be thankful that we have him now and enjoy it while it lasts! The only thing that would upset me would be if he ran his contract down and done a Bosman! It may sound materialistic or whatever but I do wanna see a huge return on Cesc's inevitable departure....not getting fobbed off for £6 million as he only had a year left on his deal with us.

Face facts it is gonna happen.......but by then Vela may be king or RVP may have blossomed into the best player in the world!

You never know Senderos and Song may leave too....so you see it's not all bad!
