Arsenal Captain for 2011/2012
It seems highly likely Cesc will leave in the Summer, who can blame him? Yet even if he did stay the lack of leadership would still remain and I would not want a brand new signing captain at the club whose hardly been associated with us (e.g. Gallas, and the ridiculous decision for Squillaci to captain us against Chelsea at the bridge earlier this season.)
Its between RvP or TV5 for me. Robin seems like one of the few who genuinely love the club, but then i'm always skeptical about strikers being captains & of course he'll miss two thirds of the season through injury.
Defenders are a good choice for captain in my eyes & I think Vermaelen is the closest we have to a Tony Adams type figure...

Vermaelen needs to focus on getting his head back in the game, and I don't believe that a striker (ie. RVP) is capable of being a successful captain due to their location on the pitch.
Looking at that list, the only natural leader is Wilshere. He'll be next to be looking out the door, may as well keep him sweet whilst we have the chance.

I would have said TV5 also, but it all depends on how he comes back from his injury, RVP, forward, too injury prone, it probably only leaves Jack, who, is the main player this season to show any true bollocks, and I also loved the way he put himself about yesterday, ok, he's young, but fuck it, give him the armband, Wenger treats the captaincy with utter contempt and disdain anyway, the way he gives it out when Cesc and RVP are inevitably unavailable through injury.
A leader needs to be calm and collected when on his back foot, but show a little aggressiveness when necessary.
In my eyes Wilshere has a 'volatile' character which will make him a passionate player (eg Rooney) but not a great leader.
Van Persie too forward.
Poll should have included Scezney who naturally commands respect from the players but is too far back.
That leaves TV5, but that means when he is injured we have no one
I think this thread highlights why Arsenal is doing badly WE HAVE NO LEADERS
:banghead: but apparently we do have a mental strength

Mad Rich I was going to include Szesney but I believe a goalkeeper as captain is pointless. Too far back and uninvolved with the nitty gritty of the game. Yes, Cassilas is captain for Madrid and Spain but our team needs one either in the centre of the midfield of defence where they can quickly have a word.
