To be honest, I think Koscielny has done okay for his first season... not amazing, but okay... especially considering he had no big game/international experience, was used to a much lower standard of opponent and the fact he's been thrown in at the deep end with Vermaelen out for the season.mikeyb772001 wrote:Why didnt manure buy kos or squid thats what i wana knowMagic Hat wrote:A title medal, a potential Cl medal, his reputation greatly improved and looking like he can gradually become a first choice defender? Yeah, hard to argue he got that one wrong.
As for Squillaci.... terrible signing

Just think if he had signed for us he could have spent the season as substitute for Norwich with Lansbury..... Bet he regrets it big timeMr FINSBURY PARK GOONER wrote:Dont know if anyone saw his interview on eurosport last nite.

I agree he has done okay. The same way Samlling has done okay.
Do you think Manure, Chelski, spuds, citeh or even Liverpool would of bought Kos and used him in the main first 11?
No chance.

I don't think he would. At Utd he would have made very rare appearances and unlikely to be enough to have earned him a Premier League medal. At Arsenal he stands a good chance of doing a Jack next season and stepping up to the next level.Rosie_titters wrote:fair comment and true, can't blame the lad - wondering if Ramsey is thing the same now
You can't compare us to Chelsea, Citeh and ManUre when it comes to the transfer market. We're not on the same level, and probably never will bemikeyb772001 wrote:[Do you think Manure, Chelski, spuds, citeh or even Liverpool would of bought Kos and used him in the main first 11?

As for Sp*rs and, to a lesser extent, Liverpool... they've signed plenty of average players who have ended up in their first teams in recent years, so I'm not sure why Koscielny would be beneath them.
That's the level we're at - we gamble in the transfer market because we can't (or won't) spend top dollar on players. Sagna and Vermaelen have worked out better than most, some haven't worked out like Squillaci, and I'm still unsure on Koscielny tbh... time will tell, I guess.

Were Vermaelen and Sagna gambles? Both were international level players who we payed fairly high prices for. Kos on the other hand we paid a lot of money for and had very little experience at all, he was a gamble and im not certain it will pay off. We all moan about Wenger not spending but he has spent just very strangley on unproven players recently that goes along with his wanky projectg88ner wrote:You can't compare us to Chelsea, Citeh and ManUre when it comes to the transfer market. I don't know if Vermaelen or Sagna were gambles. I'd never heard of them tbh, whereas I had heard of Squillaci, so I'm unsure what constitutes a gamble and what doesn't.... other than hindsight, and the fact we now know Vermaelen and Sagna are quality, and Squillaci is a fucking joke!flash gunner wrote:Were Vermaelen and Sagna gambles? Also, Wenger has gambled on transfers repeatedly during his time at the club - problem is, they're not coming off as often as they once were. Football has moved on, and finding gems and bargains that other clubs are unaware of must be so much more difficult than back in 1998-early 2000's, and I think Wenger is struggling.
Maybe his time has come and gone...?
