Gazza with an Arsenal shirt

Gazza with an Arsenal shirt

I think it was for Merson's testimonial and he was his friends. But could you imagine an Arsenal legend wearing a tottenham shirt for a game, even a testimonial?

I was at that game, when testimonials really were testimonials.

8-5 or something ridiculous like that.

And I've got to say Gazza was unreal that night.

And if memory serves correctly I'm sure Hoddle played 20 minutes in an Arsenal shit too.

Off-topic, but something that still annoys me to this day was the England squad for Italia '90. Not one bloody Arsenal player, although we had won the League the year before and were going to win it the year after.

Now our team, with the inclusion of the two **** Gascoigne and Lineker, would, imo, have won the World Cup for England.

..........................Seaman.................................
Dixon..........Adams......Bould..........Winterburn
Rocastle......Thomas......Davis..........Gascoigne
...................Lineker.............Smith....................

subs Merse, Linighan ( Des Walker actually ).

I know England had very good players that played, Des Walker, Platt, Shilton, but 'my' England team would have won the World cup.

It takes more than just picking the 11 supposedly best players to make a team.

That Robson axed Adams and Rocky and Smudger in favour of Mark fucking Wright, no-one, and Steve Bull I will never forgive him for.

Yeah i rememember the game. I think i was still a junior gunner at the time. How Merson is not on one of the large shirt pic things outside is a mystery.

I think it is to do with his days of addiction, as there were/are some at Arsenal who never 'supported' in his time of need nor 'forgave' him - hill wood being one of them....

btw: i wish those shirts were our new kit this season instead of the cheapo & laurel noncing shyte we have been limbered with.

I've still got mine but it's size LB  (incidentally much smaller than the 'modern' LB)

I can wear it as a hat though!

I agree with OneBard too. Wish it was our kit at present.

I was also there (although I can't remember the score) and recall gooners giving Gascoigne a good reception, even bursting into:

Gazza is a Gooner
Gazza is a Gooner
La-la,la,la
La-la, la, la.

to which he responded with a great big smile. 8)

Seaman was selected if I'm not mistaken. But in the end he couldn't play because of an injury.

Correct, but he hadn't actually played for The Arsenal at that time, so still imo a QPR player, even though he had signed for us.

Anyway, at the time I thought Lukic was far the better keeper.

Yeah I was there that night with a couple of friends, one of whom was a Spuds season ticket holder and he was absolutely disgusted with Gazza and Glenn Hoddle, who also wore an Arsenal shirt that night. But it was a night full of world class players. I think 8-6 was the final score, and Ray Wilkins who represented the rest of the world team was bloody superb.

If Gael Clichy stays then he is due a testimonial. I wonder why we keep getting rid of players who get to 8-9 yrs service for the club? Vieira, Toure, Henry. US Martin can you come up with a theory for this one?
