I think it was for Merson's testimonial and he was his friends. But could you imagine an Arsenal legend wearing a tottenham shirt for a game, even a testimonial?

seriously great picture. If we had him in our lat eighties/early nineties team we would have been a proper force. him, rocky, limpar and merse
Off-topic, but something that still annoys me to this day was the England squad for Italia '90. Not one bloody Arsenal player, although we had won the League the year before and were going to win it the year after.Henry Norris 1913 wrote:

I think it is to do with his days of addiction, as there were/are some at Arsenal who never 'supported' in his time of need nor 'forgave' him - hill wood being one of them....Mr FINSBURY PARK GOONER wrote:Yeah i rememember the game. I think i was still a junior gunner at the time. How Merson is not on one of the large shirt pic things outside is a mystery.
I was also there (although I can't remember the score) and recall gooners giving Gascoigne a good reception, even bursting into:Number 5 wrote:I was at that game, when testimonials really were testimonials.
8-5 or something ridiculous like that.![]()
And I've got to say Gazza was unreal that night.
And if memory serves correctly I'm sure Hoddle played 20 minutes in an Arsenal shit too.
Seaman was selected if I'm not mistaken. But in the end he couldn't play because of an injury.Babu wrote:Off-topic, but something that still annoys me to this day was the England squad for Italia '90. Now our team, with the inclusion of the two y**s Gascoigne and Lineker, would, imo, have won the World Cup for England.

subs Merse, Linighan ( Des Walker actually ).
Correct, but he hadn't actually played for The Arsenal at that time, so still imo a QPR player, even though he had signed for us.Batflyer wrote: Seaman was selected if I'm not mistaken. But in the end he couldn't play because of an injury.
Yeah I was there that night with a couple of friends, one of whom was a Spuds season ticket holder and he was absolutely disgusted with Gazza and Glenn Hoddle, who also wore an Arsenal shirt that night. But it was a night full of world class players. I think 8-6 was the final score, and Ray Wilkins who represented the rest of the world team was bloody superb.Vince wrote:
