Ricardo Alvarez has ‘signed for Arsenal?????

Alvarez has already signed for Arsenal’, claims Palermo president
Posted in Arsenal News | Written by Gooner Chris

Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini has told an Italian radio station that Velez Sarsfield attacking midfielder Ricardo Alvarez has ‘signed for Arsenal’.

Alvarez, 23, is highly sought after by several European powerhouses after sparkling form in the Argentine Primera División last season.

Controversial figure Zamparini had previously told Corriere dello Sport that any move for Alvarez would be ‘difficult’ due to Arsenal and Malaga’s interest in the highly-rated attacker.

“We had a specific interest which we express as early as January. Unfortunately, a mistake on our part has happened and he has already signed for Arsenal.â€

Should pave the way for Cesc' departure, if true.

I've seen there's some confusion over this.

If you read his comments he hasn't signed he signed. He said...
[it] would be ‘difficult’ due to Arsenal and Malaga’s interest in the highly-rated attacker.

Looks like Wenger is going for height, Alvarez, Samba, Cahill, Enrique, whoever ends up coming won't be Arshavinesque.

We're competing with the "European powerhouse" that is Malaga! :barscarf:

Although the same could apply to us right now. :(

Orrrr... if you read his comments, that's what he said "previously."

Now he's saying... "he has already signed for Arsenal."

How many 'second strikers' does one team need? Nasri (for now), RVP, Arshavin, Walcott, Ramsey, Wilshere...all prefer playing the number 10/attacking midfield role. Even bloody Bendtner gets shoved on the wing & Cesc (for now) gets moved up to that role.

Gervinho also rumoured to be that kind of player. Can't we just buy a fucking out-and-out stiker or a defensive midfielder* and stop fannying about with these multi-tasking players? Its clear Robin would thrive better behind another man and having him as the main man doesnt work.

* and a central defender. And a left-back. Thanks.

Advantages

The 23-year old is available on a free transfer and could be another of Wenger's cheap but intelligent signings. He is quite tall at 6'2" and also looks strong on the ball. From the many youtube videos available of the left footed midfielder, it can be observed that he has pace and excellent dribbling skills and can shoot from distance as well.

Also, he can play on the wings and in the role of an attacking midfielder and can provide good depth to the squad. He is still young and can develop into a quality player under the tutelage of Arsene Wenger if he shows that he has the quality and strength to play in the Premiership.

Disadvantages

He does not have any experience outside Argentina and he could struggle to settle in England and cope with the physicality of the Premiership. Also, he could be frustrated by the lack of opportunities in the Arsenal team because he will initially only be a squad player for the Gunners. With Ryo Miyaichi impressing on loan at Feyenoord, he could have severe competition for a place in the starting eleven in the future as well.

With Arsenal currently enduring a frustrating title drought, the pressure will be immense on all Arsenal players and every Arsenal player will be scrutinized for their mistakes. With Alvarez not possessing enough experience, he could be made a scapegoat by the Arsenal fans if he does not perform well when given the opportunity.

In addition to this, he has not got a good injury record with only 36 league appearances in his last three years for Velez Sarsfield. Wenger has unearthed some of the best talents in the Premiership and Arsenal supporters will hope that Ricky Alvarez can be one of his best signings if Wenger does sign the midfielder in the summer as reported.

Agreed. Wenger’s obsessed with square pegs in round holes. I’d lay good money he bought his rapper mistress a dildo from Legoland for Christmas.

Makes even less sense buying these players who supposedly give him "options" all across the front line given how unwilling he is to actually change things around when need be.
