Hleb - most under8d player in the league?

Post by highburyJD »

awesome first touch, dribbles with the ball on a string, gr8 vision, totally unselfish
yet he makes one mistake (generally a through ball 1% away from genius) and the whole of the Grove groans
Hleb STILL doesn't have chant (we have to get Alexander Hleb sung to the Nigel Winterburn chant)

is it only me who see's how good he is...?

He has improved considerably this season i grant you but still flatters to decieve sometimes. He had a great game on saturday but thats the frustration, he could be awful now against Manure. Hes so talented with the ball, gets into great positions but then so often wastes it. I would definately keep him in though because of the improvement in his game this season and his potential.

have to agree with epelsarmy, he has improved but he still does way to much with the ball, getting himself in good positions but instead of playing the simple ball gets himself into trouble. you cant question his work rate tho. but most underated player in the league? time shall tell.

Again have to agree everytime hleb gets the ball its either a blinding pass (not very often) or i'll go left run out of room go right and run out of room and then panic and look for cesc, im sure mr wenger sees something in hleb that i/we dont he could be a great player but at the moment i'm not so sure that hes worth the price tag, please let him proove me wrong against manure on sunday (and if he does i will sing his praises drunkenly on this forum when i get back from the game )

I think Hleb is very underrated. His control is brilliant and he is getting harder to shake off the ball. Only drawback is he sometimes passes after dribbling into the area when it might be more sensible to have a pot at goal.

As regards a chant, what about:

"He'll win the game, we can't pronounce his name, Alex Hleb, Alex Hleb"
(to the tune of Manu Petit Porno Flick)

That final few % he's lacking is the difference between being an Arsenal legend and what might have been. Pires is an Arsenal legend but what would he have been without his final 5% which happened to be 10-15 goals a season and an endless number of assists? That final step is the most crucial.

I think Hleb has it all and is potentially a great player but if he is to consitently fit into Arsenals style of play it's his decision making that has to improve. Three key areas that made Pires great: 1) He knew when to release the ball early or when to hold it; 2) He sized up immediately whether he should release the ball or run with it and of course, 3) He knew when to shoot.

I remember reading how Henry watched videos of Wrighty when he first joined and also how Arsene advised RVP to watch no other than Robert Pires in training to learn when to release the ball and when to take it on. Anyone got a Super Robert Pires video to lend to Alex?!

He's been here 18 months now so time to make that final step up and become a key player.

Totally agree, great player just learned he is 3rd or 4th in the league for players who create most opportunities behind the genius that is Cesc

Alex Hleb is a really good squad player and when we play 4-5-1 is first choice to play on the right side of the 3 man midfield. but should we play 4-4-2 is only second in line behind "the boy". Alex works hard and links up well but all too often misses the simple ball in favour of the hollywood pass for Henry or van Persie. He runs down blind alleys and seems to always turn into trouble. Sort out the final ball and get him to run towards support rather than away from it and we have a quality player on our hands.

Alex-ander hleb,
Alex Alex ander hleb.

hleb is defienetly under rated, not only for his abilities but he should be recognized for his attitude towards his team. While 16 of the 23 players on the team including every first choice midefielder fighting for a position against him was at the world cup improving. hleb worked on his game knowing that he wasnt performing. and he has come this season and exploded showing how good he actually is.
