Wanted - Goalkeeper?????

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Wanted - Goalkeeper?????

Post by ipswichgooner1971 »

Having watched with grim hope & utter frustraition, why is it that

Carson (West Brom)
De Gea (A.Madrid)
Given (Villa)

have all gone to other clubs at lets be fair an "average price" yet we have
NOT even given the slightest hint (as a club) that this is a position we need to strengthen!!

I now see that Stekelenburg and Frey are all STRONGLY linked with moves and yet NO hint of Arsenal being involved.

Surely all those mentioned above would improve our current clown college we employ at the moment. I cringe when the PA encourages us to shout thier names with pride

These clowns have cost us VALUABLE points in too many key games and no excuses can be made.

Sneezy is the best of a bad bunch but cannot forget the carling cup final calamity that i just dont see our previous number 1's making i.e seaman, Lehmann etc etc.

Such an important position (breathes confidence into a back four) and yet overlooked by our beloved leader!

Fair point but with some weak examples.

Lehmann was a fucking calamity of a keeper.

Carson is about on par with Fabianski.

Frey has been around for a good while now without making a serious impact anywhere.

De Gea at nearly £19 million wouldn't even be an average price for an outfield player.

C+. Think hard about the point you want to make and represent your work with better examples to enhance your point. 8)

I can't believe that we did not make some effort to get Given, he ticks all the boxs as a keeper, he is 35 with at least four good seasons in him and would not be seen by sneezy as an obstacle to his development, if he cant wait a few years behind Given and learn from him thats his problem.
To be honest its more proof that Arsene has lost the plot.

Last summer we wanted Schwarzer but wouldnt pay £3m. A year on Schwarzer is still better than Flappy Vito and Average Al.So if Szczesny gets injured we are back where we were last season.Nothing fucking changes

Given has a long standing shoulder injury that's why he got dropped at city. I was talking to a customer who is a city season ticket holder(lives in Cheshunt!) he said after the first 10 games he began to get worse wouldn't come for crosses, rubbish at distribution from goal kicks and spent most of the time stuck on his goal line he didn't like coming out to meet players running towards him. The rumour was that he was scared of landing on his shoulder.

LF21 had a good season last year pre-injury. I'd feel... okay with him behind WS13. Certainly would hope that LF is second though, not the Clown. I'd feel a LOT better with a proper keeper ahead of, or behind, Chezzer. But if I had to deal with LF as a backup I think I could manage. I may eat these words.

Schwarzer is a terrible keeper, every week on MOTD he drops clangers often resulting in goals.

How about Ben Foster of relegated Brum, I think he would be good cover and competition for Sczezeny and available at a decent fee?
