Wenger is doing the right things.

Post by Nos89 »

This is not a defence of Wenger but he does seem to be doing the right things.

Denilson - gone, JET - gone. Almunia, Bendtner - going. Cesc and Nasri are still with us, but from what I understand with very definite understanding of the club's position. He's standing up to Barca.

With Juan Mata almost signed (SSN), and very clear target of Jagielka in the sights. He is doing what we want him to do.

Main concern is the goal keepers. Only Chelski and Liverpool have an established goalie. Utd and Citeh are in the same situation as us with relative young keepers.

Wenger does appear to be taking the corrective action we want him to. Discuss.

To win the league I think you need 4 top class signings, right through the heart of your side (keeper, centre back, defensive midfielder and striker) and thats if Cesc and Nasri stay, otherwise you need another couple on top of that. Mata is a class player but if you lose Nasri he merely replaces one player as opposed to really addressing a weakness. Jagielka is a good defender for a 5th or 6th place side, but he isnt good enough if you want to challenge Man United, Chelsea or Man City.

To win the league you realistically need to spend about 50 million more than you recoup this pre season and currently you look like being in profit nevermind spending more than you take in. If I was a gooner I'd still be very concerned and I certainly wouldnt feel even slightly better by rumours of a good player and a relatively mediocre player coming in, especially when two world class players still look to be on their way out. Nevermind judge him in May, judge him when the window closes and you can see who he has actually signed and got rid of, as opposed to just seeing rumours, that'll show how ambitious he is going to be imo

That's why we've won nothing for the last 6 years, because Wenger is doing the right thing!

If he's doing things right then why hasn't he signed any defenders yet??.If he's thinking of paying Everton £15-20million for jagielka then thats a joke!!!! and as our Mackem friend says we need a quality DM pronto not continously buying attacking players when our defence is our biggest weakness.

Funny piece on last months 4-4-2 where gibbs was giving advice on how to play the left back position in which (amongst other things) he advised potential left backs to stay positionally close to your centre backs or else you could be exposed........this from a guy who defensive positioning and awareness makes the likes of clichy and song appear ultra negative

Sums it up perfectly, total clear out required. L/B is extremely concerning..

He does seem to be ticking alot of the right boxes.

But we'll have to see has he instilled some passion into the team.
To see if he has any tactics this year.
To see if he has created team spirit.
To see if he stops whinging after games and show a bit of dignity.
To see if he drops the shite lazy ones and not keep picking them.
To see if he has a plan B.
To see if he might stop playing people out of position.
To see if he might play more than one up front when we're home to mediocrity.
To see if he can motivate against the shite.

And most of all to see if he does act on all this transfer talk and spend some fucking money.
And to see if the shite is indeed off loaded.

Totally agree with you, we need 4 world class players. You compare our squad to chelski, man city/ utd, we fall short in every dept. I've said before judge him on september 1st. Although slower than we want, he is showing signs of intent.

Wenger is doing jack shit, it's supporter pressure - the supporters have been banging on for years how shit some of our players are and Wenger is finally getting the message

last season supporters were banging on, on twitter, facebook and message boards that Almunia and Fabianski were fucking clowns and Sczchensy should be given a chance and a couple of weeks later he was in the team

Wenger has finally starting to wake up and realise these players are shit and the supporters ain't going to put up with it

well im not getting excited just yet, its really best to wait for signings to come in. Bare in mind if cesc and nasri go and those players mata etc come in, were not really any stronger.

Realistically, the league is beyond us, 40-50M investment on top of what we have at the moment is when you can say we should be challenging.

4 world class players in a team i'd say thats about right, just to even compete. People say we compete every year but, we're never really a threat, you can bet your bottom dollar utd dont take us seriously.

No-one has any confidence in our defensive play anyhow, the 1st stage is bringing the right players the 2nd maybe even harder is applying the correctly.

But the 1st stage is have a net spend this summer arsene .
