New Captain Announcement
Surely this should have been announced today and the skippers notes in tomorrows programme to show we have at least physically moved on from Cesc's departure?
Its more than likely to be RVP as captain and TV5 as his deputy unless Wenger is, unlikely as it looks, waiting to sign a landmark player and give him the armband instead.

i never cared too much about captain of the team, does it really matter or is it just an english thing because in most countries they just give it to the centre half as its not that important.
but when i read the debate about john terry and rio ferdinand at england it annoys me, who fcuking cares
the captain does fuck all at football only calls head or tails

Must admit, I pretty much agree with this. In terms of leading the players and grabbing them by the scruff of the neck when required, natural leaders will do this regardless of whether or not they have an armband on. The only thing I suppose is that your captain gets to speak to the ref more (not just on the pitch but no doubt as they go down the tunnel etc) and so for that reason maybe you are best to have someone fairly intelligent who can put his point across. Quite how this ties in with a battle between Terry and Ferdinand I'm not sure mind since they both seem to be as thick as fuckREBEL GOONER wrote:i never cared too much about captain of the team, does it really matter or is it just an english thing because in most countries they just give it to the centre half as its not that important.

It reflects badly on the lack of leadership that there are no real outstanding candidates for the armband. During the GG era, we had Adams as captain but leadership with Bould, O'Leary and Davis. Then other leaders emerged during the trophy-winning era under Wenger, like Keown, Bergkamp, Campbell, Vieira and Parlour. The 2008/09 season was a farce with the armband being tossed around from player to player, like it was pass the parcel - Gallas, Fabregas, Toure, Van Persie, Silvestre (!), Almunia, Arshavin, Eduardo. Hardly a list of name to inspire and intimidate, is it?

A strong captain is important. It must be someone the players respect and feel inspired by. I've played in teams with good captains and we were more successful than the teams I played in with shit captains tbh. Of course that could be coincidence.
The role has changed a bit though. Historically it was the toughest bloke, the one that had no fear of telling people on the team when they needed to get their finger out. But it was also someone that could act as a buffer between the players and the manager, bringing gripes etc to the boss. With player power what it is now of course that part of it is mostly gone.
I still think a good captain is a real bonus.

Wenger doesn't give a shit about the captaincy of our great club, especially when you look at the arseholes that he's given the armband to.... it really sums up Wenger last few seasons here, it seems that he doesn't care anymore and that's reflected in his captaincy decisions over the last 6 seasons.... MEH!!!!
