Which of the Current squad ARE good enough

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Chesney
Sagna

Aaron

I wouldn't be upset if the rest of the squad was replaced

I agree except on Ramsey, he's far too slack when on the ball and gives away possession in dangerous areas a lot. For me he's the same as Walcott....very hit or miss and that's not good enough.

Sagna is a good defender, but is not the good 'attacking defender' that AW wants him to be.

I think I agree with most here

Jack
RvP
Sagna
Vermaelen
Szczesny
Ramsey (I do like him, I think he still needs a bit more time to get over his injury, psychologically but I think he's playing well)
Arshavin on a good day

Potentially:

Ox Both need to be given a chance before we judge them
Jenkinson
Gervinho- still haven't seen enough of him, need to see him in a big game really which won't be for a while now :banghead:
Koscielny- see what he's like with Vermaelen alongside him

I think this question needs to be broken down a bit -
  • 1) Players that are good enough for the First XI

    2) Players that are good enough to be squad players
Here are my opinions:-
  • 1) Chesney, Vermaalen, Sagna, Wilshere, RvP, Nasri

    2) Koscielny, Ramsey, Song, Arshavin, Bendtner, Walcott, Gibbs, Flappy(?)

Undecided - Gervinho, Oxo, Miyaichi, Jenkinson, Lansbury

To be destroyed - Almunia, Diaby, Squid, Rosicky, Djourou, Traore, Eastmond, Chamakh,
What is scary is that IMO, we only have 6 out of 11 players that I believe are good enough for 1st choice. Even if I give Gervinho the benefit of doubt and promote him to First XI, that makes us 4 short. Im assuming that Nasri stays...

Probably because he's not a winger,it's just where the mad professor prefers to keep trying him even though it's obviously not working. If we're going to keep him he should play through the middle. Centre halves don't like pace running directly at them and that's where we would get the most benefit from him.

Its interesting that Rambo is a 'maybe'. Clearly he is one with 'potential' but for me he was one of our only stand out performances last night. IMO I think he is quality and ready now

i agree with everyone else except that i think Kos is good enough when partnered with Verm. Not John Terry (*word censored*) good, but sufficient. Ryo I think could be good enough, would like to see him get games.

You don't really need to be able to cross when you play Wengerball (when was the last time you heard that?) Freddie was the worst crosser of the ball I've ever seen. And if Theo tried to modle his game on Freddie he could become a world class player!
