Sagna - Unsung Hero

Sagna - Unsung Hero

Post by worthing_gooner »

IMO Bacary Sagna is an unsung hero of our squad. Granted we gooners know how good he is, but he doesn't get much acclaim outside of the club. But he played left back the other day without one word of dissent, he always gives 110% for the club and has never complained about the squad.

He goes about his job with consumate professionalism.

A recent article on Skysports:

Bacary Sagna insists Arsenal will be successful again despite the loss of Cesc Fabregas and impending exit of Samir Nasri.

Fabregas sealed his return to Barcelona earlier this month while Nasri is expected to finalise his move to Manchester City on Wednesday.

Sagna is not getting down or letting his head drop over the club's off-field issues, stating only that the Gunners are 'still alive'.

The Frenchman is not side-tracking himself with the negativity, insisting his team-mates are focused on results on the pitch.

Alive
"We have lost great players and friends in Samir and Cesc but life goes on," he told the club's official website.

"Arsenal is still alive and I think we are all confident we can win something and be successful.

"Now we just want to focus on the games we have to play - we just have to play game after game and focus on ourselves."

No qualms
Sagna played in the unfamiliar position of left-back in Saturday's 2-0 defeat to Liverpool with Kieran Gibbs on the sidelines.

The 28-year-old had no qualms helping out the team, stating he will play anywhere as long as he gets to start under Arsene Wenger.

Arsenal have a crucial game away to Udinese on Wednesday with the north Londoners desperate to reach the group stage of the UEFA Champions League and Sagna believes the team will not be sitting on their 1-0 lead.

"For me it is a great pleasure just to start a game," he continued. "The injuries just make me more focused and make me speak even more with other defenders.

"It is a big opportunity for me to learn different positions and play game after game so I do it with pleasure.

"We just want to play the way we are used to and keep a clean sheet of course. We don't put extra pressure on our team. We know that Udinese have to score so the game will be open and we will try to score goals."

Well played Bacman! :barscarf:

Sagna is one of the success stories over the past few years tbh.

But.....you have to wonder how long it will be before he gets unhappy.....no decent player is likely to want to waste his career in a team going nowhere.

Sagna is one of the few shining roses in an ocean of shit.
Really rate him, top player. If he could cross he'd easily be the best right back in Europe....like him too, you never hear him being a loudmouth twat like that piece of shit Alex Song, or Diabolical.
The question I keep asking myself, is what the fuck a player as dedicated as him, is doing in a hole like Arsenal which is now home to the biggest set of mercenaries in English football??

IMO Sagna is quality as a defender,

only thing that could improve is the crossing and even then i can remember 2 goals he set up from that last season off the top of my head,
(Chamakh header vs wolves and RVP header in FA Cup replay)

i dnt think it helps his cause having walcott or arshavin trying to get on the end of a cross's,

All in all though i think he is one of our better defenders, and he rarely makes a mistake in defence

I am a big fan of sagna and have consistantly stated as much in the past few seasons 8) I agree that his crossing is not great but in a team short on natural defenders he stands out as a quality defender who plays with real heart and passion 8) :barscarf:

His crossing is hardly essential, nobody is in the bloody box.

He's Mr Reliable for me, and a top player.

great player in a team like arsenal that have players like nasri, cesc ... ... oh wait........

//rephrase..

wasted talent that should consider moving on to a club that has greater ambition to succeed or someone that will pay double for not winning any trophies... i hear man city calling again...

I wouldn't call him great. He's good, better than Clichy was for certain. But his absolute inability to cross a ball is dissapointing.

He gives everything though and he is pretty sound defensively. Aren't many RB's better than him in the PL at the mo.

Although he stands out in the current back four, I thought last year he got worse as the season went on, in fact he has never reached the form he did in his first year. I think his positioning has been poor, and is often caught out far up the pitch. Also has got worse judging the flight of the ball when going up for headers.

But what he does show is heart and passion, and on his day is one of the best right backs around, lets just hope he can get the form he once had back.

Had a great first season, second season he was poor and hardly put in a tackle, but I think this coincided with the death of his brother, last season he was ok, has started this season well, so maybe he has put has put any problems behind him.
Oh and he can't cross for shit
