With our new signings can we expect some success in the PL?

Wenger has merely bought himself some breathing space, if however the signings don't work out, he will be fucked.
He will have spent upwards of 40 million on players he won't be able to offload, just like Bendtner and Denilson etc.
If top 4 is looking remote by Christmas, then the chickens will come home to roost.
With the exception of Mertersacker, every other signing this summer is a gamble, including Arteta who only played 13 times last season and 3 of those were as sub.
So as to where we will finish, I still think it could be anywhere from 4th-11th, depending on how successful his gambles prove to be.
Unfortunately Wenger has proved to be a very poor gambler over the last 5 or 6 years.

4th, Liverpool have Suarez, we have van Persie, the rest is pretty even, they are not miles ahead as the media would have you think, Spurs are probably more of a danger.

Wasnt overly impressed with liverpool when they came to our place, looked pretty paceless and lacking ideas against a shite arsenal side. Still think its between us and them for 4th though, could go either way.

The two Manchester clubs are far ahead of us so we can forget about competing with them. Chelsea have signed some good players this summer, and despite their long blip last season finished above us so it shows how strong they are; also I am expecting Torres to come good and when he does, they'll have a great striker on their hands. Those three are stronger than us, so I am hoping for fourth, and after our signings I feel more confident but it will be very difficult.

Sp*rs looked they were going nowhere towards the end of the transfer window, but then signed Parker and Adebayor. Both of them fit in well with Sp*rs' mantra, not good enough for the best, and too good for the rest. Parker's energy levels won't last forever but they should still be high for this season at least. And Adebayor can be a handful player on his day as we know. Their midfield is great:

Lennon - Van der Vaart - Parker - Modric - Bale

Sadly I have to admit that it's better than our one. And if 'Arry motivates them all and Adebayor too, they'll challenge us this season. I'm not looking forward to playing them.

The other club who is going to challenge us is Liverpool. They look very decent this season, and as with Sp*rs it all depends on whether their players are up for it throughout the whole season. Their midfield will be key this season. It can look mediocre on paper to some, but all their midfielders can do the job. Also it all depends on how Gerrard fits into their new side and whether Carroll will find form. I still can't believe that the latter cost £35 million! Especially when you consider Cesc's transfer.

As I said before, I am hoping for fourth but wouldn't be surprised if we find ourselves outside the top four come the end of the season. In my opinion we need to further strengthen our squad in January. Get a forward, a creative midfielder and another central defender. Maybe a defensive midfielder too, that'll depend on how Song and Frimpong are doing. Wenger has four months to find the appropriate players for us, so no panic buys and excuses. He also knows that no Champions League qualification will put even more pressure on him so I think he'll have to buy whether we're doing well or not. The league is very difficult now, nothing is guaranteed and we aren't as strong as we used to be. Our best players are either very suspect to injury (Van Persie, Vermaelen, Arteta) or very inexperienced (Walcott, Wilshire, Szczesny). And we don't have a genuinely world-class player who we can depend on week in, week out like we have have had before. This is a defining season for Wenger.

4th to 6th seems about right.
Dont see how anyone can predict any higher.

I really still dont see us coming 4th though. I would like to though as it would really rub off Spurs and Liverpool fans writing us off.

Its a case of wait and see with the new signings. Personally I feel the massive fee spent on Chamberlain and all the rest of the warchest we are sitting on, should have been spent on 2 more top quality players.

A top class attacker like Hazard or Goetze would have been great. But a top class striker ie Forlan or others on the line would have been better.

I also wanted to see Song removed completely from the side with a new DM. Hopefully Frimpong does it.

Best we can possibly reach is 3rd, but I think it'll be 4th at best...either us or the scousers for 4th, unless the chavs throw a wobbly....

So hopefully AW will focus on the FA Cup and the CL....

Carling Cup team could be interesting....

Oxlaide, Myaichi, Chamakh, Jenkinson, Miquel,...Ooooops I forgot AND there's floppy.... :duh: :banghead:

I'd say top 6. Getting a powerful centre back in was a vital move and one that will definitely help, but I'm not convinced that either of the midfielders will be good enough considering the loss of Fabregas and Nasri. You'll not be far off the top 4 and could scrape in there but I think to finish top 4 you'd really need RVP fit all season and he's never looked likely to go a full campaign without missing at least some of it
