Whats our starting XI then?
Right lads, been a while since i posted on here, not a great start to the season!! we need to start our season against swansea and think that we have got 3 hard games out the way....that doesnt excuse the fact that all these dealsd could have been done about 2 months ago though, thats poor on whoever took so long, wenger? the board? whoever...nobody really knows do they?!
anyway...with so many new faces coming in and several going out, thought it would be interesting to see what people consider our actual starting 11 now if everyone is fit.....i know, no chance of that happening, but lets pretend miracles do happen!
i would probably go with
Sczezny
Sagna
Mertesacker
Vermaelen
Santos
Song
Wilshere
Arteta
Gervinho
Arshavin/Benayoun
Van Persie
Leaving subs of
Fabianski
Koscielny
Gibbs
Ramsey
Walcott
Park
Frimpong
we actually have a decent squad now if we can get them fit, because the likes of Rosicky, Djourou, Chaimberlain, Chamakh, Jenkinson dont even find a place on the bench, i know they arent amazing but they are all worthy of bing back up.
I think we have strengthened pretty well in the end and could push for the top 4 now
What do we think?

I think he will play Walcott over Arshavin but agree with the rest, I think overall it is stronger, in the past if Cesc ain't played, we ain't played, the team looks more balanced now much like United did after Ronaldo left and Valencia was seen as his replacement.
Weak links are Song and Walcott, last year it was Song, Walcott, Diaby, Koscienly, Squillaci, Bendtner, Chamakh, Clichy, Denilson, Eboue, Djourou, get the point....

To be fair, this thread actually makes sense to me rather than all the postcodes in AussieGoon's one.flash gunner wrote:Wannbe Mod Alertkingjayson1 wrote:http://www.onlinegooner.com/phpbb2/view ... hp?t=31768![]()

Took me a little while to figure out AOC wasn't Aidan O'Connell
Live and Kicking 6 was a further source of bemusement

The team I've chosen is pretty self-explanatory. No-one is going to argue with the backline chosen. Szczesny is now our undisputed number one. We finally have a decent goalkeeper, three years too late though. Vermertesacker can become a very good partnership, they complement each other well. Let's hope both stay injury-free. People have been saying that Andre Santos is not so good defensively but is a brilliant attacker so he's definitely an improvement on the left-backs we had and have. Sagna is the only defense regular from last season's team.
Hopefully Song improves and Frimpong can challenge him. Whilst not having Nasri and Fabregas in our midfield is a big loss, Denilson's absence from it somewhat evens it outs
Wilshire is a player who you'd be happy about building the team around. People forget that he is only 19 so will only get better. Arteta is our marquee signing. I'm really looking forward to seeing him play for us. Finally we have someone who can take decent corners and free-kicks.
Van Persie is our best player without a question. If we lose to him to injury, I don't know what we'll do. I think we'll have to play two players up front, Theo and someone else. Because no-one is good enough to lead the line on their own for us expect Van Persie. Chamakh was successful last season in doing that, but now seems a shadow of himself. I disagree with Wenger giving Van Persie the captaincy though. It's an unneeded burden on him. He is a striker and needs to just concentrate on scoring goals. Let's see how he copes with it. Gervinho should be a regular starter this season. He seems direct and likes to take on players. That's nice to see for a change. A lot of people are not sure about Walcott. He is definitely not Henry but he is a decent player. And he contributes well from the wing.

Substitutes:
Fabianski (I'm hoping we don't end up with Almunia
)
Koscielny (not much difference if Djourou is there but please not Squillaci)
Jenkinson (he can cover both full-back positions)
Ramsey (still not good enough for the first team but close)
Rosicky (experienced and a cool head)
Arshavin (still a very good player despite his laziness)
Benayoun/Chu-Young (both are versatile so having either is a good option on the bench, can't decide which one though)
And those are the rest of the players in the squad:
Mannone (still only 23, might end up a Buffon or a Taibi)
Squillaci (we now have four other centre-backs so sell, although something tells me clubs won't be falling over themselves to sign him)
Djourou (decent defender to have as backup, not a regular though)
Gibbs (he'll be injured half the time, thankfully we've signed Santos)
Frimpong (promising early signs but let's not get carried away)
Diaby (he is not a defensive midfielder nor an attacking one nor a passing one a la Xavi and to add insult to injury, he is injury-prone (no pun intended); Wenger needs to either sell him or reinvent him)
Miyaichi (haven't seen him so can't comment, just a token promising youngster at the moment)
Oxlade-Chamberlain (looks strong already despite his young age, would like to see him tried up front rather than on the wing)
Chamakh (don't know what happened to him; but he needs to be told that he has one season to prove himself, otherwise out)
It's a good squad but the first team doesn't have enough "super-quality" and will need to be improved by signing some top players in January. The midfield is a bit light and the strikerforce does not have enough bite. This is what I want to see happen to our midfield and strikerfore come January:

Don't who we should sign in particular. Perhaps we should try to sign Lassana Diarra. He is very experienced, familiar with the set-up and will slip in effortlessly. I don't know which forward is good enough and we can afford. Wenger's extensive scouting network should cover that
But I hear that Sunderland got themselves a world-class forward a few days ago. Perhaps we should see how he gets on and if good enough, get him
We should sell Chamakh, Rosicky, Squillaci and Diaby if we need to trim the squad and the wage bill before making any new additions.
Hopefully Song improves and Frimpong can challenge him. Whilst not having Nasri and Fabregas in our midfield is a big loss, Denilson's absence from it somewhat evens it outs
