Sevilla.... just back

Sevilla.... just back

Post by Rob Admin »

Just back from Sevilla.... was pleasantly surprised to see that the Arsenal badge has a very prominent place on the huge mural that features prestigious opponents that Sevilla have face over the years. Did we play Sevilla in the 1980 Cup Winners Cup? I'd appreciate any info on this tie.

How the hell did Tottenham manage to cause problems in Sevilla. I found the locals to be very open and friendly and the police very professional and tolerant. It just shows them up for what they really are.

Rob.

No we didn't play Sevilla in 1980 - our first game with them was at The Emirates a few weeks ago.

The Spanish representatives in the ECWC in 1979-80 were Valencia who we lost to on penalties in the Heysel Stadium Final after a 0-0 draw - Alan Sunderland had a late goal disallowed for offside and the penalties were missed by Kempes, Brady and Rix.

But I was in Brussels that night. Do you know the one I mean????

When Mario Kempes missed that penalty was just amazing :D

Sadly tho' it ended in tears. (Really, I cried like a baby)

We sang....

I got the impresion that the mural was not recent and therefore can't undertand why they'd have put us on there as a future opponent.
