meeting merse/wenger

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

meeting merse/wenger

Post by topcat »

I met the legend Paul Merson at some charity thing in my area on thursday, don't know how to display photos on here but my avatar as you can see is me with my arm around him :) as you could imagine he was pure commical and an absolute gem of a guy.

He knew i was a gooner because i took my old 1996 merson shirt for him to sign..anyway, i said to him... "i think its time for wenger to move on now, what do you reckon?"
He replied exactly "nah, not for me anyway...if you knew the guy you wouldn't even question him being the man for the job, he's so dedicated the man, who you guna' find better?"

I'll be honest, after hearing something like that off a man that actually has worked with many pro managers and knows football probably better than all of us and after our superb performance at the bridge yesterday...i personally have gone from an anti-wenger to being totally unsure, and its not that im following what mers said (although it did have an influence) but if you think about it we're doing well this season.

So i'm back to 50/50 about wenger..has any other anti-wengerists had second thoughts?

  merse is a arsenal ledge mate, but i don't really value his opinion on football matters, should of asked him who was going to win the 2.15 at Newbury

I've wavered in that I want him to see out the season and if we dont win a trophy or if we finish below Spurs he should leave the club.

I think that is fair.

I really do think as long as Gazids and the board in place, the problems will continue, I mean the problems wont end when Wenger leaves. I cant see a decent replacement being chosen by them.

Wait, what?

You heard words to this effect

"nah, not for me anyway...if you knew the guy you wouldn't even question him being the man for the job, he's so dedicated the man, who you guna' find better?"

And you've now changed your opinion (ish) on wether Wenger should stay or go.

And you opened a thread to advertise this.

Oooookkkaaaaayyyyyy.

Why would anyone change their mind because of what Merson or any other 'pundit' thinks? Wenger still has zero idea on tactics, can't organise a defence beyond sunday league standard and plays and rewards piss poor players! Wenger out!

at the moment this reminds about having a dodgy relationship with a woman who is a bit of a prude in the bedroom department

you keep saying to yourself, if she doesn't start giving me a good old shag, i'm going somewhere else to get it - fucking up tight bitch

but out of the blue, she spits on your cock, gives you a good fucking blow job, before shoving your cock up her arse and you think wow what a right dirty bitch and you decided ok i'm staying

Topcat, let me get this right...

You've had over 15 years to make up your own mind on Wenger and the merits of keeping him on as manager, and yet your well thought out educated opinion has been swayed by a few vague words from a childhood hero of yours??

Can I also point out that Merson didn't even play under Wenger for that long, anyway... although it was long enough for him to come up with that corker of a line "Wenger gives us unbelievable belief" 8)

That said, I welcome any fan who turns from anti-Wenger to 50/50, because some of the abuse aimed at him - especially on here - is disgusting.

Glad you made a thread Topcat because it is good to meet an ex-Arsenal player of quality and it is not like it happens every day.

Merson's opinion is a valid any of ours, probably more so...but I would be fascinated to know what other ex players of ours think too.
