Life after December

Life after December

Post by 26may1989 »

There's been plenty of talk of our mega December fixture list but has anyone noticed how kind January to mid-March is:

West Ham (h)
Brum (h)
Fulham (a)
Newcastle (h)
Man City (a)
Blackburn (h)
Brum (a)
Villa (h)
Wigan (a)
Boro (h)

Unless our form changes completely, that should be a minimum of 26 points out of 30.

After that, things get tougher: Chelsea (a), Bolton (a), Liverpool (h) and Man U (a) in the space of three weeks, with the Champs' League QFs in between. But we then have some easy-ish league games to finish: Reading (h), Derby (a), Everton (h) and Sunderland (a) (Champs' League SFs then too).

If (still a big if) we get to the end of December in good shape, we can be optimistic about getting to mid-March on top or at the very least a close second. So we could go into our very intense April period with the pressure very much on our opponents.

Or we could screw it all up and be nowhere.

That run of fixtures does look kind, but if we suffer a crisis of confidence the likes of which the 49ers did, given a bad result or two in December, some of those fixtures start to look a whole lot tougher.

Well, we can mathematically have 72 points by then.

However, if we do have 72 points by Valentine's Day, I'll eat my hat (with it firmly in mind of what happened last time I said that!)

We've had promises of hat eating on here before and I don't think they ever happened!

At least St Totteringhams Day should be nice and early this year

All of our home matches should be won (West Ham, Birmingham, Newcastle, Blackburn, Villa, Middlesbrough) unless we are in not in form. Wigan, Birmingham and Fulham away are not that hard; Man City is the only tough match in that period, they are the only team with 100% home record so far and will also get stronger during the January transfer-window. I'd be happy with a draw against them. I agree with you, 26may1989, 26 points out of 30 during that period, looks likely :) [/b]
