usual thread starter… Ok, so we suffered without Cesc and Hleb, but here’s a question for you. Do you think that the Flanimal would have made any difference last night?

I agree that we missed Helb and Fabregas (and we miss Van Persie just as much). However, the fact we didn't beat Newcastle has nothing to do with their absence, or that of Flamini. We didn't win because The Boss decided to go 4-5-1 after 10 minutes in which we had battered them. This invited pressure which our brittle defence was never that likely to withstand (especially after riding their luck at Villa). When we went 4-4-2 again with Bendtner's introduction we got on top again. Unfortunately The Boss directly cost us 2 points last night.
The result, and the fact that it was self-inflicted, puts me in mind of a game at Villa at Christmas 1998 where we lost 3-2 after leading 2-0 at half-time. Again it was all self-inflicted and we lost the title by a point on the last day - most people remember the defeat at Leeds as the reason for that, but I remember the game at Villa. Let's hope the Ghost of Christmas Past is not coming back to haunt us this season.
