It's all a load of Cannonballs in here! This is the virtual Arsenal pub where you can chat about anything except football. Be warned though, like any pub, the content may not always be suitable for everyone.
probably a simple answer but ive always wondered why the officals behind the goal run the side of the goal that is on same side as linesman in that half.
wouldn't it make sense to stick them opposite side so effectively all 4 areas of pitch would be covered?
thats assuming they do have communication with ref?
Isnt a ref supposed to run diagonally, so supossedly, if up with play, would be in the opposite side of the penalty box to the lino and geezer behind the goal and therefore have most of the attacking part of the pitch covered ?
Yes Stuart as a ref I can confirm you are indeed meant to run diagonally, but at grassroots level we almost never get Match Assistants (linesmen) we can trust so normally if there is a diagonal slant to the normal path it is a very slight one.
i mean if linesman (or woman!) is up with play incidents in corner should be spotted so the extra official not needed that side and for me be of more use the opposite side especially with the other lineo stopped on halfway line?
or is there only job watching inside the box? i mean if theyre there they may aswell be used to cover bigger area.

If you were reffing a match I was playing in, I'd 2 foot you (from behind of course )
