No signings in Jan

Post by lowerwest »

Yeah ok we been here before many times...like the season we wouldnt get a new centre half even though we were desperate or the season we played AA up front on his own and didnt score in 4 league games in a row. This year its upfront with the hopeless Chamakh away and the not up to it Park frankly being a bench warmer. What happens if RVP breaks down? Wenger has said he wont sign anyone....but then he always says that.

Any chance of joy in Jan?

He's not said he wont sign anyone, just he wont talk about it at the moment. He's also said he has options. Wenger does that all the time, he's not going to come out and say 'We need this' when we have important fixtures coming up, can dispirit the team.

I think he'll dip in. Chamakah will be off, so he'll probably look for a replacement.

we shall see

Post by lowerwest »

we shall see indeed....the smart money is on him doing nowt though isnt it. we are just about keeping our head above water in the league and it could go either way. certainly a lot tougher to get to 3rd or 4th this year.

A signing or two could make all the differance.

Every season Wenger does just enough to get us a top four spot and nothing more.

When we signed Arshavin it was the morale booster needed to drag us into fourth spot that season. The same will happen this season, if it looks like we're going to drop out of the top four, he'll make a signing and do just enough.

No ambition other than fourth spot. That is the objective for the season.

the guy

the guy who sits next to me at the emirates is convinced wenger is on a bonus every year to get us 4th. thats the thing that really pisses me off....beautiful stadium check,60000 fans every other week check and a transfer policy that would shame sutton united. everythings done on the fucking cheap isnt it...look at our back up strikers for gawds sake. how many other top top clubs are run into the ground like ours...liverpool are doing crap but they spend the dosh dont they.

Spot on.The only time Wenger spent big money was in 2006(Greedy Diaby :banghead: and Walcott) and 2009 (Arshavin). Both times when we looked like missing out on 4th place

When we had a chance to win the title 2008,2010 and last season he didnt spend. He's only interested in finishing top 4 :banghead: :banghead:

Absolutely - the grove is packed out every other week with people paying the highest ticket prices in Europe. The stadium is covered by a manegable long-term loan and we've sold off all our best players in multi-million pound transfer deals.

So where has all that money gone?

Everyone tells us there's transfer money available to spend, but every window it comes and goes with no movement. This year more than any we needed movement, we got loads of outs and practically nothing coming in.

Nothing will change. January will be a dull window as usual. If Wenger does sign someone, it'll only be to get us top four then he'll sell off our best players again in the summer.

The club has no ambition whatsoever.

On the plus side, once RVP, Wilshere and Vermaelen have left, we won't have to worry about losing our best players anymore.

When we have a few injuries, it will take more than a couple of signings to make top 4.

Absolutely but we've been bloody lucky to qualify for the CL at times - such as the Sp*rs last day at West Ham.

It's only when we actually drop out of the top four that people might actually open their eyes to what's going on at the club.

The lack of ambition is a disgrace - I don't understand why the vast majority of arsenal fans have gone from the invincibles to simply unquestionably accepting fourth place at best every season.

I think it's too simplistic to say Lord Vader only wants to reach the top 4. The man is driven. He would love to win everything.

His downfall is he has a very limited vision of HOW he should go about it.

He won't sign anyone in January because the fans and media are saying he should and his massive ego will not let him bow to that pressure. I also think if we have done reasonably well up to then he will actually fully believe the squad is good enough.

The fact that he will then not plan for the usual late season injuries and fatigue and loss of form to key (but by then worn out) players demonstrates a lack of Risk Management understanding that would get most of us sacked.

BUT if say, someone like Goetze does come up, I do think Wenger will swoop.

I'd hope so, but to be honest I would not be at all surprised if he didn't. :? :(

I wouldn't be suprised either, but I think if someone handy like him did appear, and we know Wenger wants him, with the extra CL money now sorted, they may take a punt.

I suppose its all about who goes out as well.
