As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.
This ongoing polarisations of AFC supporters is somewhat unique to my knowledge. Can't remember fans of any other team being split in such way over whatever issue (apart from current Blackburn situation)
Anyone remembers anything similar to what we're expiriencing now?

But I haven't intended yet another Wenger stay/go thread
It was more of a historical question... ...for instance, have Arsenal fans ever been this divided over an issue? Some other teams supporters perhaps?

The first manager of Arsenal in my time as a fan was Terry Neill and when he went there was barely a tear shed.
When Don Howe left the only real reaction from the fans was the appalling way it was handled by the club who were sneaking around behind his back interviewing other managers. A true Arsenal man deserved better than that. But the football was mostly awful and I think the vast majority of Gooners craved a big name manager.
I would say towards the end of GG's reign there was a divide in opinion. The man was rightly loved for re-establishing the Arsenal as a trophy winning club, but his last 2 years were dire and similarly to today there was enormous frustration at the lack of quality signings. However, his end was brought around by different factors as we know and it was a "quick kill"
I can't quite remember a long period of dissatisfaction as there has been with Wenger, and I think the problem now is that we know the earliest it will come to an end is 2014.
So, I think the division amongst Gooners is probably now at the highest point in my lifetime.

I really do think the amount of dissatisfaction at the club right now is largely instigated by a feeling of powerlessness. No matter how bad the results go, there is nary a whisper of Wenger's job being in any real jeopardy. And I think the fans are starting to get sick of that lack of accountability.
Whether it's the players, board, or manager, somebody has to step up and say "I/We are not doing good enough for the standards set by this club".
