Bacary Sagna
am i the only who thinks he's the best right back in english football and one of the best in europe right now?
the guy is a monster. won 14 headers out of 17 against everton, is very reliable defending, and now is finally making the odd good cross inside the box. runs the whole pitch, never tires, what a player. for me it's no coincidence that he returned from injury at the same time we turned things around. the guy is invincibles material, probably my favourite player in this team right now.
if we ever release a good looking shirt again (doubtful as long as we stick with nike), i'm getting one with his name on the back.
any other sagna admirers out there?

Re: Bacary Sagna
Been a fantastic RB the past few seasons but i have two problems with him.
1. for a professional player whose job is it to do nothing other than play football i still cannot work out how 9/10 of his crosses fail to beat the first man. I would expect this to have improved after 3 years but still stays the same.
2. recently he seems to have fallen off the pace a bit in his tracking back and defending. Whether it's a fitness issue or a bit of laziness i'm not sure. But nowadays he seems to allow wingers to easily get passed him when they would not have had a chance a few years ago.

Re: Bacary Sagna
agreed, i believe he is one of if not the best in the world, cant believe there is never talk of clubs sniffing round after him, also apart from this season he is very rarely injured, never gets in trouble or the media spotlight,
prob my second favourite player only to Vermaelan

Re: Bacary Sagna
sagna's absolute quality, his crossing's not THAT bad, it's just that we never have anyone in the box so he can only aim for van persie, whereas if he played for say man utd he could just cross it into an area without looking up and know that someone (be it rooney or hernandez or scholes or giggs or whoever) would be attacking it. the main reason i think so many people rate gary neville, is that he spent pretty much his whole career sitting in that little area, half way inside the opposition's half, waiting for the wide right player to play it back to him so he could cross it first time into that area between the penalty spot and the 6 yard box knowing someone would be attacking it, and so by default meaning he created a lot of goalscoring opportunities.
our whole team apart from van persie hangs around on the edge of the area for cut backs, meaning crossing from deep is usually a waste of time unless we're on the break

I agree Sagna is the best right back in England at the moment. He defends excellently which is all i want from a defender, yeah full back often bomb on but as a defender i want him to defend and he does that superbly

Bit suprised with this comment, as when he come from the injury he lloked a good deal leaner l feel, plus it was quite a bad injury so it will take time, but he certainly is a quality right backMM99 wrote:Been a fantastic RB the past few seasons but i have two problems with him.

Absolutely agree 100% with flash - when you play in defence your first priority should always be to defend and for me there isnt a right back in the world that I would swap for sagna

Re: Bacary Sagna
He is an excellent defender however he offers us little or nothing going forward. To be a great right back he has to improve this aspect of his game.

Sagnas good at what he does but what he does is not alway sgood. I think he would be better if he did something other than whats he is currently doing that is not good, but saying that, what he is currently doing is quite good. Sometimes I wish he would just do something different to what he is doing but then he goes and does what he is doing very well. On the occassions that he does wha he is usually doing very well very poor, I think he should do it differently.
Just my opinion

Re: Bacary Sagna
He's not flashy, but effective. However, like many great players, he makes the players around him better. Whoever plays on the right seems to have better games when Sagna's behind them - I'm sure Walcott would agree his presence back there makes attacking much easier. Easily underrated - I don't think the hair gets him a lot of attention tbh...
He has definitely worked on his crosses, which were pretty weak; now they are "good", but not deadly. However, I'd rather have a tireless defensively responsible right back, rather than our somewhat frail-at-defending left backs.

He has the best hair on the team as well. It looks like a spider is perched on his head, just waiting.....
Song has been giving him a close run lately though with his cheese puff mohawk.
All joking aside though, Sagna is great. A machine that is rarely stopped or harmed and a faithful servant as well.

Re: Bacary Sagna
He is up there among the best right backs in Europe for me. Yes his crossing can be more consistent but his overall offensive game is pretty good. He is very strong on the ball for a fullback and does win aerial duals consistently. Apart from that he is one of the genuinely nice guys in the game, has a fantastic attitude and cares for the club. He has to be in the top 3 of my favourite players in our team.
I do agree that he has been found wanting this season in a few games, but we have to realise Arsenal are not the most defensively well drilled sides in the world. Kos and Verm are quality defenders but even they are made to look average and amateurish at times. Having a knobhead like Song allowing mid fielder runners to ghost past him doesnt help either. Also we have to recognise the fact that Theo does not provide the ideal support to Sagna when it comes to tracking back and we all know even the best of fullbacks need support from wingers. In a defensively well drilled side Sagna's effectiveness will double.
