Re: Sol says it all
He has a point but is a little wrong in making it now. The team has hit a rich vein of form, there's a good amount of belief in the dressing room so why come out with it now? The transfer window is closed, there's nothing that can be done about it. Wait until the summer, then make your point. Don't risk upsetting or destabilising the dressing room.
Re: Sol says it all
Agreed, no real point saying this at all. Plus its nothing that Wenger hasn't already hinted at he's going to do. I do believe we're only 3 signings away from challenging next year.
Still, got to love Big Sol, pity we can't still have him about the club, he was sensational when he came back 2 seasons ago, fired the team up. Be good in the backroom staff.

Re: Sol says it all
Nothing wrong in what he says, but hardly groundbreaking comments. No different to what most of us have been thinking ever since we moved to the bowl, in terms of the direction and the ambition of the club
If RvP leaves in the Summer then as far as I am concerned we are back to where we were last year. Still significantly behind the teams challenging for the top prizes and further weakened by the loss of a world class player that we have no intention of adequately replacing.
Finishing 3rd or 4th and ending up 20 odd points behind the Champions doesn't feel any better to me whether we started well and ended badly or vice versa - the overall achievement is still the same.
The only way that the 20 points get bridged is to keep the RvPs and Wilshere's of this world, bomb the players that are clearly not good enough and add the Podolski, Goetze and M'Vila types. Not rocket science, within the club's reach if it so chooses....but sadly for me outside of the owner's investment philosophy and the manager's comfort zone.

Would you not think that now is the perfect time to say it ? For me the good run of results (if not performances) we have had of late should suggest that really we are only 3 or so players away from being a real title challenging side so now is the correct time to suggest pushing that boat out imo. Making those comments in the middle of our dire run do little but stir up an already angry hornets nest and could deflate the confidence of players who are already low on it.
Btw rigsby, surely you would agree that wenger has been making the same noises about buying players in each of the last 3 summers ? I am not having a go at you as such but I can never understand the absolute confidence some fans have in wenger making proper investment in quality every bloody summer despite him failing to do so the previous summer and the summer before that and the one before that - talk is cheap mate especially when it comes to wenger and ivan

Re: Sol says it all
Apparently Wenger respondened to Sol calling for Arsenal to spend big. 'Sol has a lot of money - he's welcome to give us a gift.'

Did he really say that? If so then that is top work by the old mentalist!HashKads wrote:Apparently Wenger respondened to Sol calling for Arsenal to spend big. 'Sol has a lot of money - he's welcome to give us a gift.'![]()

Only kidding sensitive sorts, I don't really think Arsene is mental. Just a bit fucked in the head and deluded.

Yeah he did. John Cross just tweeted it from London ColneyDB10GOONER wrote:Did he really say that? If so then that is top work by the old mentalist!HashKads wrote:Apparently Wenger respondened to Sol calling for Arsenal to spend big. 'Sol has a lot of money - he's welcome to give us a gift.'![]()

Re: Sol says it all
Always makes me cringe watching Sol talk. Don't get me wrong - I love him. It's just that he always looks like he's struggling to actually speak and to string a sentence together!
Re: Sol says it all
I agree with Sol, 7 years of scrambling for 4th and endless February cup exits tell me the hierarchy are very comfortable at our club. Wenger has just said in his press conference that we will spend the money we have wisely, based on the enormous deals Djourou, Denilson, Chamakh etc are on I simply don't believe him as we waste what we do have on rewarding some sub standard players.

Re: Sol says it all
I am in 2 minds about the recent run of good form. Of course I am happy that it looks as if we will finish in the top 4.
However, if we do end up qualifying for the CL it will simply reinforce the mindset of Wenger, Korenke and Ivan that we do not need to invest in quality players, and therefore prepare yourself for another season commnecing in August 2012 when we scramble on desparate for 4th place, a mile behind the whoever wins the PL, dumped out of all cups before the end of February and 8 seasons without a trophy. We have been warned...

Re: Sol says it all
But then isn't Wenger correct? If we finish in the top 4 then Wenger has been proved right that this side is a top 4 side. The recent run is HIS team, so I don't get this talk that 'I hope this recent run doesn't convince Wenger we're a good side' Well we are a good side and the run has confirmed it. Pretty sure Wenger has noticed that if he had that extra 2-3 bits of quality in reserve then we could have won something this year. That's why I expect him to strengthen and strengthen well.

Re: Sol says it all
I completely agree with T.S.
Sol was a great player for us and I think he is generally a good bloke but he doesn't appear to have paid much attention in English classes. I wish he'd kept his mouth shut, but the interview is about as bland as it gets and if it nudges the Board/AW to buy a bit of quality then I'll be happy.
Last year he did the review of the day's newspapers on Sky and truely cringeworthy.
He joins a long and distinguished list of ex-players who should really be banned from talking in public (Adams, Merson, George etc).

I am the first to acknowledge the return of passion in our team of late and they have been on a good run of results (I still feel that the performances are not convincing) but would you not also agree that the total capitulation of our scummy neighbours and the in house aggro in chavski bridge has contributed massively to our 3rd place that we now find ourselves ?
Btw if this recent run is HIS (wenger's) then doesnt that mean our absolutely disasterous and embarassing first few months of this season was also down to him ?
