Good riddance, horrible *word censored*. Could be that Martinez gets the job, but didn't he turn it down though before this arse got it?? Anyway, fuck 'em, wish they had gone down.

g88ner is right. It was a crazy appointment and the stupid, tight-fisted American owner, with the stupid name, deserves the crap season they've had. Fair enough, appoint your bitter rival's manager if he's Guardiola or Ancelotti, but piss off all your fans by appointing that tosser shows how much Yanks know about football (and we should know).

stupid appointment.

We had a hand in this as well. By having a carling cup victory on his CV he got that job.

But their owner + managers made an awful decision with McLeish. They wanted to employ McLaren, the fans were very negative, and they got cold feet over it. So the next time they tried to be 'strong' and employ McLeish.

I have never seen a manager so negative as McLeish. He would still have everyone behind the ball when 2-0 down, his birmingham team were the biggest long ball merchants in the league ahead of stoke, imo Birmingham were the only team that offered nothing but boredom to the PL.

He also said the tackle on Eduardo was a good one :banghead: , he also got players like Gardner putting on filthy tackles, which that muppet Hutton gleefuly tried to implement at villa.

All in all a disaster. Good by Alex, hopefully the next time we see you, you have learnt football can inspire not depress.

They were so lucky to avoid relegation, their team seemed a blunt instrument under McLeish.

Their owner has done good PR work with the fans, but he needs to spend more to get them out of the relegation struggle for next season.

Buying a striker might be a start.

Funny one this.

Villa of course were taken over by an asset-stripping Yank capitalist, with little to no knowledge about football in England.
A financial speculator who for all his bluster, has bought this club to make a buck off it.

Randy Lerner began to take the piss by ostracizing Martin O'Neill by selling players under his nose, and withholding funds.
O'Neill walked and he appointed the useless Houllier. After he was rubbish and post heart problems....despite vehement opposition from Villa fans, he appointed McLeish!

McLeish was of course appointed because Lerner could go about asset stripping and slashing the wage bill left, right and centre. The Villa fans despite their reservations gave McLeish a chance. However, when they saw what unfolded before them, Villa fans began to protest. Protest marches were held. Letters flooded into Lerner and the club. Many fans wrote to the club to insists they would not renew until McLeish was sacked/walked. Constant boos met crap performances. The fans put serious pressure on Randy Lerner and guess what?

In the end, the fan pressure told and McLeish has been sacked!

Great stuff. Like I said though. Isn't it curious how at other clubs, the fans refuse to passively sit back and claim 'there's nothing we can do'?
I know the scenarios are somewhat different but the principle remains the same. McLeish kept them in the league (just) despite the Villa wage bill being slashed over 20%. But the fans were disgusted and the Yank was forced into sacking him.

The fan angst at Villa under Houllier even saw the Yank speculator spend £22 million on a striker - when it matters, even Villa show more ambition than Wenger and Gazidis. Could you ever see a £22 mil striker arriving at Arsenal? Funny how a team like Villa can spend that on a striker....

Still. There's 'nothing fans can do' when faced with a greedy Yank owner eh? Villa fans show the way....

You don't know that, Baba. It might not have been fan pressure that got him the sack.

Maybe it was the fact McLeish FAILED to achieved Lerner's expectations? after all, he nearly got Villa relegated!

Whereas, like it or not, Wenger has probably SUCCEEDED in achieving Stan Kroenke's pre-season expectations i.e. a champions league spot.

So, they're very different situations.

Even the Villa statement points to results getting him the sack...
"The club has been disappointed with this season's results, performances and the general message these have sent to our fans."

And mate, before you start with the "oh g88ner, I thought you were cleverer than that..." or something along those lines, can I just point out that I AGREE with you that fan pressure probably played a part, but your post gives almost all credit to 'fan pressure' and little to the fact Villa were shockingly bad and nearly got relegated.

Babatunde

You tear into Lerner for "Asset Stripping" and lowering the wage bill, and selling players from under O'Neill's nose.

But please read The Swiss Rambler on Villa, who makes a good case that O'Neill was spending too much for a club of Villa's budget.
Lerner meanwhile had so far contributed £240M.
