picking the bones of relegated teams

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

picking the bones of relegated teams

Post by highburyJD »

who would you nick from relegated teams?
BLACKBURN Junior Hoillet has been linked a lot, I'd be happy with him... er that's it
BOLTON surprisingly quite a few. Klasnic would be a decent backup striker, good finisher. I also like Stuart Holden and Chung-Yong Lee don't think they would have gone down if they'd stayed fit. Didn't even know Sordell was there till last day but he always impressed me for the U21s.
WOLVES at a push Hennesey as backup GK... Doyle and Fletcher put in shifts but not sure they have the quality (better than Chamakh but hoping the bars higher than that for next season)

VILLAREAL I'd have half their team! Senna straight away, old but solid. Rossi is class, so is Cani, the keeper Lopez is brilliant, Marchena solid and experienced, we were in for Zapata when he left Udinese apparently, Nilmar is good (HTF did they go down?)

Bojinov from Lecce, Podolski old team mate Rensing used to be highly rated...

struggling a bit now. Anyone else think of some relegated bargain basement options?

Are you part of Wenger's scouting network? Explains why you think Wenger is doing so well when you are suggesting some of the tripe on that list.

Only Rossi and Cani should get anywhere near our team if we have realistic ambitions of anything.

Yes. Hoilett is nothing different to what we already have. Young, not quite the finished product and inconsistent. :banghead:

Stuart Holden and Senna could slot in and straight away do a defensive job in midfield
with the slating Song gets surprised neither of them could be thought of as options
Senna was the best player in the last Euro Champs FFS...

Senna and Marchena are fucking ancient - don't want those slow old bastards in our team

Rossi ex man utd, not good enough for PL

and the reason Wolves, Blackburn and Bolton got relegated, is because there players are shit - and is that what you want Relegation fodder at the Arsenal, we have enough of that already

Marcos Senna will be 36 at the start of next season. Rossi is good but has had two knee-knacks this season and the rest have not covered themselves in glory by playing gash football culminating in relegation. They spent the Cazorla money badly.

Does anyone remember the clamour for Birmingham's centre backs Jonhson & Dann last year? Well Dann has been poor and Johnson has been an unmitigated calamity, both relegated again. There's a reason you don't pick the bones sometimes.

Perhaps Bogdan the Mighty Ginger might be worth a gamble (possibly a couple more from Bolton) and Feltcher started well but only Junior Toilet would interest me out of the relegated teams.

right. from fabregas, viera, paul davis, brady to ...stuart fucking holden. an average player who will be at a championship club next year.

Arsenal our the third biggest club in the uk and have one of the biggest fanbases, we often attract 59k at our ground, which charges the highest ticket prices in england, we have qualified for the top european competition 15 years in a row, we are the biggest club in the biggest city in europe, we are a world renowned club, and you are suggesting an amercian/scottish midfielder who was rejected by sunderland and starred in a poor bolton side which will spend many years in the championship to come.
What are your ambitions for Arsenal, top half finishes, maybe a good carling cup run? how fucking desparate do we have to be? it's like richard branson looking to buy a used vauxhall cavalier. :banghead:

Actually, if we are to 'pick the bones' of any RELEGATED team, I would suggest that we have NO ambitions.

Norris,

That's funny as fuck, a freudian slip mayhap on my behalf! Surprised the FA/PFA/Prem League allowed that sort of behaviour to go on all season tbh :)

None of the players mentioned are great though Holden looked a v.good player before he got injured but would be a bit of a risk after just one good season. Hoilet looks OK but nothing special.

Senna is a possibility though I'd prefer Peter Storey.

In the English league I would take only Hoilett from the relegated clubs. There was a time when Morten Gamst Pedersen looked like he might be worthy of a move to a bigger club but he doesn't do a lot these days.

In a pure commercial move the club could look to sign Yakubu......I'm sure the matchday catering revenues would at least double
