Charity Shield at Villa Park

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Charity Shield at Villa Park

Post by Chips and Chocolate »

Manchester City and Chelsea won't be playing at Wembley because the Olympic football final is being played the day before

If only same could happen for Cup semi-finals :barscarf:

I don't know why they don't play the Charity Shield and the FA Cup semi-finals at the Milennium. Used to love going down to Cardiff - cracking stadium, right in the middle of the city centre with endless decent pubs, bars, restaurants and hotels.....unlike that shithole Wembley or Villa Park where you're lucky to find a pub that hasn't been boarded up within a mile of the ground.

I wholeheartedly agree Cardiff was ace, especially in the sunshine near the castle, pubs were decent, etc but due to the extotionate amount that Wembley cost, going way over budget, there is no chance that the FA will turn away the revenue that Wembley matches provide to them.

Still, unlikely to be of any concern to us in the near future is it :(

Wembley is like The Emirates. They specifically go out of their way to seek that pubs and bars are shut in the surrounding area to ensure that people drink in the ground. There used to be a private bar next to the ground called Silverspoons. The last I heard they'd had their license revoked. It's all a massive money-making exercise.
