Help! Looking for a Specific Bit of Arsenal Footage...

Post by T.S »

Was taking a trip down memory lane with my dad the other day, lamenting the glory days and all that, and we both came to an agreement at how fondly we remember the '96 home match against Sheffield Wednesday (Paddy's league debut). As memory serves, we were 1-0 down at half time to an Andy Booth (remember him?!) goal only for PV4 to come on in the second half and completely dominate the game. We both came away saying "fuck me, that Vieira looks a bit useful".

I digress. Having done a brief search on YouTube and on torrent websites, I can't find any footage of the game, which surprises me because I remember clearly that it was televised. If anyone can help in the search for footage of this game, my old man will be very, very pleased.

Ta very much.

Yeah, I'd like to see that too.

I also remember Vieira looking amazing on his debut. And yes, it was definitely televised.

That most certainly will be good enough mate, and I will be pretty heavily in your debt if you were to find it. I know I taped it ages ago but I have no idea where it would be now. Don't go out of your way to find it, but if you've got it, I will very much appreciate it!

Here's some footage (starting at 14:30, I think). I want the whole game but this is a start. I love the bit at the end where they ask Wrighty how he feels about Wenger coming in and his answer is, "who?!"

Tony, sorry to report but I am no longer in possession of the video of that game - it appears that a lot of my old video's disappeared when we moved last time

SteveO has been on the phone to suggest that you simply look for footage of Diaby's debut. It is almost a carbon copy of Vieira's dominant performance agains the Owls.... (apparently).

TS, I thought that Vieira came on in the first half, must have been for an injury. Also, if I remember correctly, this game was a midweek game, and I don't remember it being live on tv. I might be wrong, but it's not very likely

Oh,and got no idea where you can get the game from

You could well be right about Paddy coming on in the first half. It was, however, definitely televised. I remember the commentator saying something rubbish after Wrighty got his hat-trick.

ahh well, you're probably right then.

It really was a game where you saw someone for the first time and thought, "wow, that boy can play".
