Redefining a Member

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Redefining a Member

Interesting article. For those who felt 2014 was the time we saw increased sponsorship being the key to the future of the club (Including me). Nope, it's going to be about trying to get more out of those who already go to matches or who are members.

We are investing in a CRM system to register interests and passions so we can then send those people on appropriate journeys of affinity and provide access at an appropriate level.”
What the fuck :? I don't want to "go on a journey of affinity", I want my team to win silverware!

A chunk of Marketing is all about waffle, people using buzzwords to justify their jobs.

I have no problem with the club offering different commercial products and partnerships, but the bottom line is invest in a good manager, good coaches, good medical staff, good players and good training facilities.

Success on the pitch is paramount.

The other stuff I will buy or not depending how good it is as a stand alone product, not because Arsenal are involved.

I would agree. What Arsenal seem to be saying is that instead of Arsenal branded products (e.g Credit Cards) we are likely to see Third Party products being offered in return for sponsorship.
I can also see a basic membership becoming free, to effectively capture as much marketable data as possible, a bit like the DVLA do, and then sell it on.

“As soon as we crack in-stadium WiFi that will give us the flexibility to offer so much more,” he adds.

Jeremiah - Ooh look I can get a live stream of us on my lappy here in club level

Tarquin - Shhh! I'm trying to watch Masterchef on iPlayer!

They have Wi-Fi in club level : I used it during the IG Q & A.

Password at the time was 'sustainable business model'

I dunno... I get we need to generate income... I get we need to modernise... I get we need to offer our "customers" a better match day "experience"... I get we need to utilise modern technology and marketing theories... I just don't get why all that shit seems more important to the Board than beeing a successfull football team... I just feel more and more disconnected from this modern business that used to be the glorious Arsenal Football Club... :(

The WiFi thing makes sense.

It's not about taking away from watching the football but more giving the sponsors another platform in which fans/supporters can see their promotions.
However, it would be seen & promoted as "enhancing the match day experience".
Basically it's a marketing tool.

For example; the club currently use an app for android & twitter which has a paying fee.
If they made it available for free they could fill more content on the app with sponsorship in the guise of competitions/offers & information. More sponsorship = more revenue. Over that of a paying application.

If the in stadium WiFi was fixed that could be utilised for other events such as concerts or the international football.

In stadium WiFi will detract even further from an already poor atmosphere.

Yep, would agree Dan. I get the need say during an all day sports event (e.g. Test Match) but during a 90 minute game of Football?
If it's used for non-football events though, then that can certainly be a benefit.

p.s. I don't know anyone called Tarquin, but why is it always their fault (see earlier post)
