Joel Campbell to go on loan
It would seem that he has been turned down for a work permit yet again, thus we are another forward light in the squad. Will this mean Afobe is given a chance?
I also have to question the value in spending yet more money on another player we are unlikely to see for a good few years (ala Vela, Bothelo and Galindo) when we need players for the here and now to seriously challenge for major honours again sometime soon

Re: Joel Campbell to go on loan
Is it confirmed that his work permit has been turned down, or more a case of the scouting team feeling he needs more time to develop?
He is a player I look forward to seeing as he looks like a positive attack minded player, but at his age another season on loan could do him a favour?
BrazilianGooner said Botelho had behaviour problems, Galindo had a serious injury so maybe that accounts for why we have not seen them in England?

Re: Joel Campbell to go on loan
Report says application turned down again.
The other two were both visa problems as they have not played anywhere near enough games for their national sides.
If Bothelo has issues why is he still with us?

I've watched Botelho playing a few matches for Levante last season. can't see him at Arsenal, ever. Same goes for delusional Wellington, left Brazil bragging on how he was bound to become a PL star and.. well we all know where he's now.
On the Campbell matter, I watched his goals and a couple of match compacts of him and liked it, maybe was deemed too raw for PL still because now he's a regular starter for Costa Rica, his permit can't even be denied, can it?

He clearly has not played enough games for his natonal side (can't remember the exact percentage you need to play but it is high) and so yet again we have paid a transfer fee, signing on fee and wages for someone we can't use.
regardless of how promisisng these players are we surely must use our money more wisely?

Re: Joel Campbell to go on loan
I really hope he's not another player we're going to loan out for years and years until it transpires he's never going to be good enough. I watched him play for Costa Rica against Wales and he looked fairly sharp and took his chance well but I can't fairly hope to judge him on what was essentially one pub game.
What disappoints me looking back is the number of time Wenger has sunk into these players. I seem to remember he took several days out to attend Miyaichi's work permit hearing personally, although the conviction he shows in these players may be commendable to an extent surely that's time that would be better spent elsewhere?

Re: Joel Campbell to go on loan
Slightly off-topic but the comments in that article are absolute bollocks. For me it's a ludicrous thing to say Xavi, Iniesta and Messi wouldn't have been picked for academy in England. Messi is an anomalous case because he only ended up at Barcelona because his home clubs couldn't afford to pump him full of the drugs he needed. Saying that, any player that could turn up as a kid and skin the entire team and score would never have been dropped based on his height, particularly when he's rapid: does Martinez think Walcott would make it but Messi wouldn't given that they're both short and Walcott is even weaker?
Yes there's undoubtedly more focus on physical attributes in England, but players like Wilshere still come through without being tall or particularly strong, and Scholes is the same dap as Iniesta. Besides, Martinez makes out that they would turn up at 10 or 11 being able to pass it like they do now and they would be told by English clubs to fuck off which is clearly not the case.

I'd to see him feature at Arsenal in some capacity next season. Maybe if we can get him a permit we should do what we did with Frimpong last year- give him til Jan to show us what he can do and if he can't break into the first team loan him ouut to another lower PL club or top championship side. Would help him get used to the english game. However, clearly not possible if he can't get a permit

Sadly Afobe will never be given the opportunity in the side that he deserves. If AW had paid £2m for him from a lower league French side he would defo be a contender but a local youth graduate? No chance in Wenkers mind!

What a goal against Paraguay yesterday.

The boy knows where the goal is and is actually willing to SHOOT. No wonder Wenger loaned him out, needs to cut that shit out of his game sharpish.
