A TRUE legend. RIP.
Was lucky enough to see him play live a few times over the years.

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww DFAMNNN! I knew he had been ill, but....
That's come as a real shock.....really I'm just really sad...
Deep purple were the third band I ever went to see live.....
At the local Students Union p[lace - I was only 14yrs old, me and two mates from school...they wouldn't let us in at the door, but this hippy type student said, Go around to the back and we'll let you in'...and sure enough, went round the back of the building and this hairy hippy bloke sticks his head out of the window and says 'ere...up ere!' and so we all got in - they were touring with 'In Rock' at the time...I can still remember it now...
"Sweet Child In Time"...Gillan was just getting into the first screaming part and a hi-hat cymbal fell over and hit him on the back of the achilles - there was blood all over his white loons...but the haunting opening of that track...perfection...
But Jon Lord and Richie Blackmore did this Guitar / Keyboard Battle and it was awesome....
It seems a lot of my (music) Heroes are passing away recently....
