How are Arsenal fixed for FFP?

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

How are Arsenal fixed for FFP?

Post by mike_stefan »

FFP = Financial Fair Play

It's something that a lot of people have been talking about recently. I was looking at the wiki entry on this and I was wondering how this will affect us. It's well know that we have a huge wage bill (probably in the top 5 of the Prem) and so how are we positioned when this comes into play??

We make a profit so we are fine. The rule basically says that clubs can no longer make huge losses in order to spend big and compete for trophies but wont stop City or Chelsea as we have seen the Sheikh signing a big sponsorship deal with his own airline that has gone unchallenged.

Well, we only make a profit by selling players. Without player sales we are a loss making club.

Oh it will come into play.. but not like most people expect as it's all about your income. It is good for clubs like Real Madrid and Barcelona. Maybe it's not bad for Arsenal but if you don't spend your money it doesn't matter anyway.

I think it'll work eventually as football is struggling and everyone seems to accept that.

I'm sure there will be a tipping point as seeing inferior clubs (Citeh, PSG, etc.) overtaking the traditional superclubs (ManUre, Milan, Inter, etc) will not sit well for too long. They'll bite back and attempt to restore order.

Anyone expecting an immediate impact will surely be disappointed though - it'll take several iterations over several (or many) years before it brings this madness into check.

I wouldn't completely write-off FFP though. I'm confident it'll eventually gain momentum. It's no quick fix though.

Agreed. We'll be the richest mid table side in the world if we continue as we are.

Interestingly Alisher Usmanov is the chairman of Gazprom's international investment sector.

FFP won't make any difference, certainly not to Arsenal. It's ridiculous for us to sit around & expect that football will change the way it does business to perfectly suit the Arsenal model, it won't. And what was is Ivan said at the AST meeting the other week? Something along the lines of "If FFP hasn't worked in three years then we'll have to try something else." :? :banghead: Great. What a fantastic business plan our CEO has in place.
