Park, Park wherever you may be...

Post by Arsenal Till I Die »

Ok, seriously....

What is the deal with his guy? We sign him from under the nose of Lille, he plays a handful of games, making only ONE appearance in the Premier League and scoring only ONE goal in the League Cup (although not a bad finish, i was there in the North Bank for that).

Now, from what I've seen of the dude, he does work hard in putting defenders under pressure and he has a nice finish on him BUT there is clearly more than meets the eye here because there has to be a reason he's not even picked for FA Cup games vs Leeds etc.

I've heard that he's been put on the transfer list and I've also heard that he's going to be used more next season due to the impending sale of Bendtner, Vela and Chamakh plus the loaning of Campbell and Afobe.

It was practically a given that he was another Inamoto type signing - to help boost shirt slaes in Asia - but if that is the case, why not go for a better Asian player like Honda? The club would win either way in both shirt sales, player wise and probably a f**king car sponsorship deal.

Thoughts? :rubchin:

Wenger wanted to help out his old club Monaco.

No other explanation.

The reason he hasn't played is that... he's fucking shit.

We didn't sign somebody like Honda because he would have been too expensive and would have therefore had to supplement any commercial benefits with significant contributions on the pitch. I'm not saying Park was a good signing (he clearly wasn't), but his fee meant that even if he didn't perform it wouldn't cost us too much whereas it's impossible to justify spending £15-20m on a player purely for merchandise sales etc, so I can see why the club did it.

i will never understand this signing. people say he's shit, but i honestly do not think he played enough for us to get anywhere near adapted to the english game or the team's style. don't care how shit he may be, i just don't understand why in a season where we only had one decent striker he was given less chances than chamakh, worst arsenal striker i've seen since franny fucking jeffers :banghead:

I'm sure he's shit (very shit) but that never stopped Wenger. Look at players like Almunia and Denilson who racked up over 150 appearances for the club despite being two of the worst players to have played for the club and showed it consistently too.

There's something fishy about this whole Park situation and I doubt it has anything with his footballing ability. He can't be worse than Chamuck can he, yet Marianne still gets gifted minutes to this day by Wenger! Go figure.

Knowing Wenger there was probably a bonus in his contract or extra fee to Monaco if he played more than one game.

Almunia and Denilson are shite, I think everybody on this forum would agree, but they're nowhere near as bad as this bloke. Normally I wouldn't be comfortable making bold judgements on the basis of 2 or 3 games, but the Marseille game showed me everything I needed to see. They were a complete mess defensively in the first half at the Emirates and we were absolutely rampant, carving through their midfield time and time again. If we had had a striker with an ounce of footballing ability a bit of basic movement would have created chance after chance, instead everything broke down at his feet and with his complete lack of striking instincts. The other players you mention are poor PL/good Championship players, Park is exactly that: parks standard.

Few days old but -

Blackburn want to take Arsenal striker Park Chu-Young on loan for the season - to make up for the loss of Leon Best to injury.

Rovers have been watching the former Monaco hitman in action for South Korea at the Olympics and are hoping to persuade Gunners boss Arsene Wenger to let him join them.

Park signed for Arsenal a year ago but hardly figured, playing in just six games and managing just six minutes of Premier League football during a single substitute appearance.

The 27-year-old will be shifted out of the Emirates before the window shuts at the end of August.

Rovers are looking for two new forwards after the hammer blow of losing Best, bought from Newcastle for £3million earlier this summer, for six months to a knee injury suffered in a weekend friendly.

Manager Steve Kean hopes to complete a deal for West Brom's Simon Cox and would also like to land Jamie Mackie from QPR, but his bosses are pushing for Park on loan.

Arsenal may be looking to sell the 27-year-old, who made his name with French side Monaco, but could put him in the shop window in the Championship if they do not get the right offer.

It really was a great goal. Great movement to get space in the box and fire one in. He looked shit in that champs league game he started for us but besides that I never thought he looked bad. Maybe he can get a move back to France somewheres.
