Penalty
Ok so far we haven't come close to getting a spot kick this season whereas the Chavs have had three if I am correct.
Yesterday at Anfield, the Victims screamed for two both with Mertesacker involved. The first was never apen in a million years whilst the second had contact but not sufficient to warrant the Racist landing the kick.
Now I thought Webb was very good yesterday, but had it been Mike Dean we would have concede two spot kicks.
I'd like to think we will be getting our fair quota of spot kicks this season but in all honesty do Chelsea deserve all the pens they get?

Re: Penalty
I said exactly the same thing yesterday when Suarez was diving. Credit where its due Webb handled that game superbly yesterday and made it perfectly clear to Suarez he wasn't going to tolerate his theatrics. However, like you I am convinced that Dean, or worse still Dowd, would have been on hand to point to the spot without hesitation. "The same old Arsenal always cheating" bullshit definitely has swayed some of the refs over the years and I genuinely believe the likes of Dowd, and in the past Durkin, have revelled in sending our players off and letting the opponents kick the shit out of us.
The Chelsea thing is a bit different though. Hazard is earning penalties in the way Henry used to.....he's just unplayable at times and defenders end up falling into the trap of dangling a leg out.
I don't have a problem with them getting deserved penalties, but more when we go months without a penalty (wasn't it at Wolves at the end of last year when we got our first PL penalty ??) and our opponents get them for f++k all (Dowd with his 2 assists in the 4-4 draw - I honestly think that pen against Koscielny was one of the worst I have ever witnessed)

Re: Penalty
Chelsea will get loads, Hazard is so quick and tricky.
Re: Penalty
Didn't we only get 2 league pens last year? Villa away & Wolves away? Our lowest ever total or something...rigsby wrote:I don't think we really had any last year either.
Re: Penalty
Webb is head and shoulders above the rest of the refs in the league and more often than not you know he'll have a decent game. Whereas everytime we get Mike Dean I stick a tenner on us losing the game and having either a player sent off or a penalty against us. Him and Phil Dowd are the biggest c*nts out of all the refs.

Re: Penalty
If that *word censored* dowd was ref they would have got at least 2 pens
Re: Penalty
Can I just take this opportunity to praise the absolute world class tackle Per made to deny that Sterling kid inside the box, even I thought it was a pen on first viewing.

Hear hear
Re: Penalty
What I don't get is why Webb didn't book Suarez? No real punishment for diving
Re: Penalty
That was brilliant and a big fair play to Webb for resisting the time honoured Anfield tradition of automatically pointing to the spot. If that had been Dean or Dowd, it would probably have been a red card and a penalty1989 wrote:Can I just take this opportunity to praise the absolute world class tackle Per made to deny that Sterling kid inside the box, even I thought it was a pen on first viewing.

Too many think a if it's not a pen then it's a dive and bookable.richpye wrote:What I don't get is why Webb didn't book Suarez? No real punishment for diving
There's 3 degree's
A foul, which is a pen.
No foul (fair tackle), with contact. No Pen.
A Dive. Bookable offence.
The 2nd is often forgotten about.
Re: Penalty
There's even a 4th one where a player is running so fast that he sees a defender hang a leg out, moves sharply to avoid it, and loses his footing in the process. It's not a penalty, there was no contact, but the fact the player fell over doesn't necessarily make it a dive. I tend to go with the players reaction in some cases, if they are appealing for a penalty after an incident like that I'd book them, otherwise it should just be a play onBlock_5_Gooner wrote:Too many think a if it's not a pen then it's a dive and bookable.richpye wrote:What I don't get is why Webb didn't book Suarez?
