Arsenal Goalkeepers!!!

Post by Peeman »

1949-1962 Jack Kelsey :barscarf: :barscarf:

1963-1974 Bob Wilson :barscarf: :barscarf: :barscarf:

1974-1977 Jimmy Rimmer :barscarf:

1977-1984 Pat Jennings :barscarf: :barscarf: :barscarf: :barscarf: :barscarf:

1984-1990 John Lukic :barscarf: :barscarf:

1990-2003 David Seaman :barscarf: :barscarf: :barscarf: :barscarf:

54 years = 6 top of the range keepers

Enter the manager of the decade

Lehmann (to be fair I thought he was good) :barscarf:

and then

Almunia

Fabianski

Chesney - the jury is out but he has the potential to be great, probably still a bit too young to be first choice :barscarf:

Mannone (to be fair he is third choice but he is still shit for a third choice)

Fuk me! What age re you? Can you remember Jck Kelsey?

I have to be honest here.
I thought Wenger should have replaced Seaman looooong before he did. IMO Seaman was done and dusted long before he left us.

Pat Jennings for me all day long. :barscarf:

Jack Kelsey I'm goin on hearsay. Wilson I'm goin on me da. Jennings :bowing21: & Rimmer for Villa - my own recollection. At the time I was thinking same about Seaman but I think thats coz we were used to great keepers. I'd take that ageing Seaman now - no problem.

Yes, I think it's fair to say the goalkeeper position has been an issue for quite some time now :(

In 16 years Wenger has signed one good keeper Mad Jens

Its shows how little he thinks of the goalkeeping position when Almunia was number 1 for so long and the number 2 and 3 keepers this season are Flappy and Manonne. Both who are in the same class as Vince Bartram

I would rather have Bob Wilson at his current age in goal than that useless wanker Mannone. Fabianski isn't any better and Szczesny has the ability but needs somebody to beat the living daylights out of him to bring him down a peg or two. Although what do you expect with competition like that?

Controversial opinion maybe, but I actually think Lehmann was better than Seaman

Scez is a good keeper but he has no back-up or competition. Lloris is pissed off with "Them lot" so could we be cheeky and buy him? No, he costs more than a fiver

Or Fabianski. What have we got to learn about these fellas that hasn't alredy been evidenced in countless thrown away cups and points through individual errors. People tried to convince themselves that Fabianski had turned a corner when he saved a powderpuff penalty in Belgrade just as they are trying to convince themselves that Giroud can be the next Henry.......but surely the bloke who has worked in football for 30 years can spot this shite? Or perhaps not

Rimmer and Lukic top keepers!!???

All top managers realise the importance of a top quality keeper, but not ours. I'm not an expert on keepers, but in recent times Steklenberg, LLoris, Freidel etc have been available at sensible prices but we rely on Mannone etc.

Exactly - there are keepers well within our range and have been for years. I think Joe Hart cost £300,000 from Shrewsbury. But no, why go for either a decent homegrown keeper or a top class international like Lloris or Steklenburg when you can give a 5 year deal to an imported piece of crap like Mannone or Fabianski that will never ever be good enough

If anyone doubts Wenger's self harm tendancies that they need look no further than his choice of goalkeepers. Lets not also forget that if it hadn't been for injury to Fabianski then Chesney was a month or two away from leaving the club to get regular first team football.

Exactly. Sign him, make him a genuine No.1 contender to keep Chesney on his toes. Make him the keeper of choice for all the cup games. Isn't that a better option than having Dumb and Dumber taking £70k a week off the payroll between them and letting us down every fucking year
