Re: Poppy Mafia
Don't be so dramatic
I know for a fact that it was deleted by accident. When the thread was moved from 'the terraces' to 'cannonballs' last night, a duplicate copy remained in 'the terraces'. It was assumed this morning that that duplicate could be deleted without effecting the original thread... sadly, that appears not to be the case as the thread has disappeared.

By all means try and continue the thread...
(I'm moving this to cannonballs though)

Sticking to the Mod code, I will name no names (it was Rebel), but I assure you it wasn't me (because it was Rebel).

I did create the shadow thread by accident last night though

Re: Poppy/McLean thread

Two amateurs now.

Reminds me of that scene in the good the bad and the ugly, with Tuko lying outside the sherrifs office;
"Hey, what's this? One bastard goes in. Two bastards come out!"

Fuck the Poppy Mafia ,he has freedom of choice to wear it or not and he chose not to .
Whilst I always wear a Poppy and when living in the UK collected for the region I am heartily sick of the witch hunt by the national press against those who do not wear them.
The last two governments have cynically linked the wearing of the Poppy and the parading of the coffins in our villages as implied support for illegal and immoral undertaken supposedly on our behalf.
These people pay lip service to the fallen whilst condoning the sending of our troops of die horrible deaths in far flung lands,we would be better served directing our energies in trying to prevent this farcical loss of yet more lives !

dont believe me and i dont care, it was moved to cannonballs bacause it has fuck all to do with arsenal so we ended up with the same thread in two different sections of the forum and as i deleted the shadow thread i deleted both because i didnt know that if you deleted one it meant you deleted both.
Re: Poppy/McLean thread
McClean has the freedom of choice to choose not to wear it, me and many other Sunderland fans have the freedom of choice to consider that an insult to the relatives that a lot of us have who either serve now or who have served and we have the freedom of choice to hope the attention seeking, thick *word censored* fucks off out of our club as soon as possible and we have the freedom to decide to give him no support whatsoever whilst he wears our strip. Freedom of thought and choice works both ways thankfully. He's entitled to his opinion, I'm entitled to mine.Herd wrote:Fuck the Poppy Mafia ,he has freedom of choice to wear it or not and he chose not to .

Re: Poppy/McLean thread
Imagine if a German player or player of Iraqi descent refused to wear one on similar grounds, not one person would stand up for them. I know he's from Derry and Bloody Sunday etc but he was born 17 years after it happened and he's obviously such a proud Derry-man that he plays for Republic, and slagged off Northern Ireland's football team and rejects the notion that he's Northern Irish when it's asserted.
If that's what he genuinely feels then I guess fair enough but I have to question his actual standpoint on it, seems ill-advised at best.

Re: Poppy/McLean thread
i have great respect for the british legion and the help they give to former soldiers, but the guy didnt want to wear a poppy and that is his choice , same choice that millions of britons took last weekend and i know for a fact that far more people dont wear a poppy as those that do,mcclean is from derry and without getting into a politicial debate here i imagine not too many catholics wear a poppy up there due to the history the town has with the british army,
so save your anger for the fellow brits that refuse and ask yourself why they dont wear one.
ps
before i get accused of anything here i wore a poppy yesterday because both my great grandfathers were ex british army who fought in world war one.

Re: Poppy/McLean thread
I dont like the idea that you have to wear one. Personally i put money in the collection tin but i give the poppy to my daughter. My grandfather was fought and survived in WW2 and i have his medals and am very proud of him but im not going to be told/expected to wear a poppy. It does take away from the whole thing when TV celebs are in a rush to be the first ones to wear poppys and i feel the whole thing is being mis-used.
As for McLean for someone who seems to dislike Britain he seems happy to take British money from sunderland

i cant ever remember mclean ever saying he disliked britain flash , but imagine what his family would have to go through up in derry if he had wore the poppy, again im not been pro or anti anyone here as there are bigots on both sides,
again it should be a matter of choice, as far as i can remember we do live in a democracy.
