Why should I be proud to be a gooner?

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Why should I be proud to be a gooner?

Post by ElliotGooner »

I ask why should I be proud to be a gooner? Just got in from Bradford and for me tonight is the final straw, no matter how hard I try I cannot gain the motivation to go to Reading on Monday for a bunch of over paid over pampered idiots to decide they cant be bothered or that its too cold while our clueless manager continues to make the same mistakes and excuses he has made for the last 6 years. My love and passion for the Arsenal will never die but my faith in the current set up of board, players and manager leaves me thread-bare for hope or optimism in the side. What do we have to be proud of at the moment?

having dark times every once in a while is a part of a football club's history. in a few years all those muppets will be gone and we'll still be there supporting the team.

of course there's a lot to be proud of, we are The Arsenal :barscarf:

(but yeah, how shit are we) :(

Don't let the door slap your arse on the way out .
I wake up every day and laugh because I'm not a Tottenham fan
I have seen Football the world has viewed with Awe up close and personal
I have seen us win trophys with a team of grafters with little skill
I have seen us win the league twice at WHL ,and know that this is at least once more than any living Spurs fan
can say.
I have laughed when we were shit and never made it out of the clock end bar for the second half
Traveling to an away match knowing you are likely to get beaten and going berserk when you win.
I have friends that have lasted over 40 years who Im proud to know
Ive had Highbury as a spiritual home for almost 50 years
I'
Teams ,Managers,Owners,Fickle fans, they come they go ,but whilst I'm not proud of the persons who represent us off or on the field right now ,I'm fucking proud to be Arsenal ,today tomorrow and until the world ends next Friday !

History mate its all about History.
Fair play we are currently not making any but the villains of the piece will be the culprits in years to come. Those who outed Dein can take most of the blame but it was Dein who introduced Kronke so Dein has some explaining to do. Wenger has stayed past his time.
If Kronke wants a return on his investment is it far wiser to have team in which the fans like to achieve that goal. You see I did not write successful.
We can finish 3rd but still see that the team has quality and depth. I see a great midfield but nothing up front and fairly weak at the back.
So at the moment you cant be proud of the team but as an Arsenal Fan you stand behind Man United and Liverpool as the most successful English club of all time.
Chelsea and City will take decades to catch up.

Why does that make you feel proud when no one on the inside of the club echoes these sentiments?

Chin up Son.

There are fewer reasons since THOF was digracefully demolished but be proud of; the history, the tradition, the essential beauty of our kit, not being Tottenham, not being West Ham, not being Chelsea.

The current mob in charge will be gone one day. Grin and bear it I'm afraid.

Fair enough, I just personally think those words are empty - performances on the pitch make me proud. Fuck all else about the club does.

That's what's keeping me going at the moment. Long after Wenger, Gazidis and Kroenke (cretins to a man :banghead: ) are gone I'll still be there. I was there before them and by christ I'll be there after them.

Well said, thats keeping me going. The chance that sooner rather than later those *word censored* will be out of our club and we can recover.

Because this club is ours, be it through birthright , geography or any other reason this club is ours. I am proud to be Irish but havn't always been proud of what Irish people have done. Same applies here, I listened to Alex Cropley (remember him) on TalkSport today and he spoke of arriving in Highbury from Hibs in 1974-75..he spoke of the the class of the club. It reminded me of The Arsenal I began supporting in1972.
There are many reasons to be proud to be a Gooner , the best reason of all is answered in the question you ask..You are a Gooner !!!

Just out of interest, when people started singing 'ONE ARSENE WENGER', did you join in and if not did you give those that were a piece of your mind?

The fuckers ruining our club will not always be here. The Board will grow old and either die off or (hopefully) sell out and fuck off before then, the manager WILL eventually change, the JCL mong twats that currently infest our stadium will lose interest in a team that provides no glory for their glory-hunting shit-tainted hearts and fuck back off to the cricket or the towel-flicking Homo-ball...

All this shit will eventually change and we will get our Arsenal back. How fucked and badly damaged that Arsenal will be by then is anyone’s guess but it will still be ours.

Think back to Tony Adams powering in that header against the scum in the cup semi in 93.
Think back to Chippy’s amazing screamer against the scum in 78.
Think back to Rocky crying when told he had to leave his beloved Arsenal.
Think back to how gutted you were when you heard Rocky had died.
Think back to the day we signed The Dennis and how that felt.
Think back to the old 70’s cannon, the club blazers, the Marble Halls, Highbury.
Think back to away trips on cold pissing rain Saturdays surrounded by the Gooner tribe and drinking and singing your heart out.
Think back to Anders Limpar slapping the kúnt McClair at old shatford.
Think back to winning more leagues at the Drain than the scum have.
Think back to being the only modern team to go a whole league season unbeaten.

Think back to all these things and you’ll remember why you are proud to be Arsenal, mate.
