As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.
Following a conversation with my girlfriends father on xmas day, he stated that ken friar (knows him from the days when his dad played for the club in the 60s) had said to him that in the 1993-94 there was only 6000 season ticket holders at the arsenal. I challenged it but had no real backup to it but found it very hard to beleive!!
Does anyone know/how to find out a figure of how many season ticket holders we had back then??
I don't have any stats, but I wouldn't be surprised if he's telling the truth. In 1992/93, several home games had attendances of circa 18k, including away fans. So assuming there's 2,000 away fans, then 6,000 Arsenal season ticket holders would equate to 38% of the home support - which seems viable.
However, the new North Bank was opened in 1993/94, and despite the fact that bonds were bloody expensive (you had to be a bond holder to buy a ST there, don't forget), I could see the figure being a tad higher. I got my season ticket in 1995/96 without any fuss, so season ticket's were definitely available on demand.

really mate, have you got the official figures cos I find that un-fucking-believable - in fact, I don't believe it.
I wouldn't say that was hard to believe.
I should imagine most of them were in the east stand ( the no so cheap seats)
I had my first st. 93/94 but prior to that you didn't really need one, just turn up on a saturday afternoon and straight in the North Bank

According to wiki, it's true.
Arsenal v Wimbledon - 18,253 (10/02/93)
Arsenal v QPR - 18,817 (04/05/93)
Arsenal v Forest - 19,024 (21/04/93)
All midweek night matches, and as we lost 1 and drew 2 of those games, I'd say the majority who stayed away didn't regret their decison!

I was going all the time then and can't remember those games.
prob true but remember back then you just turned up on the day and paid to go onto the NB or CE or you purchased a ticked for east or west stand which you could do at the box office inside the marble halls so people didn't have to have a season ticket, even the spu*s games were never all ticket ,
There was no such thing as a terrace season ticket in the 1980's so even if they were available in 93/94 I can understand why there wouldn't have been a great take up. And although we could get 50000+ for a big game crowds of 20000 & below were not uncommon between the late 70's through to mid 90's.
Even when the north bank was being renovated it wasn't that difficult to get a ticket.

Sorry Mk but there was, I got my first season ticket for the 87 / 88 season at a cost of £60 !
I bought a season ticket as although I had been to 17/ 18 home matches in 86/87 I didn't get a ticket for the Littlewoods cup final so decided to ensure my attendance at any future finals by being a season ticket holder (Luton on my birthday )
