On a serious note I would say it's likely to be a relatively small team who came and got a bit of a hiding in a group game.

The fact it was fixed on English soil doesn't necessarily implicate an English team as I see it - more likely to be just the away team agreeing to throw the game without the knowledge of the home team.

Those games were not fixed by clubs but by "gamblers" (who don't want to lose ). They don't get more money from a semi-final but what they get is more attention = more risk. They'd have to pay way more money AND they have a higher risk while at the same time they don't get more money for it.

I agree with _James_ post.. I even guess one team was already through and the other team already out.
