JACK WILSHERE - how long will he stay at Arsenal?

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

JACK WILSHERE - how long will he stay at Arsenal?

Post by Top Londoner »

Would the lad be gone after the 2014/15 season, if we do not win a trophy, or we finish out of the top 4?

He might be a Gooner, but money talks, especially if accompanied by almost guaranteed success on the pitch.

I can almost sense Wenger rubbing his hands now, at the prospect of lining his own pocket.

He is on a 'long term contract'. It means fuck all nowadays.

Let's enjoy the lad's skills whilst we can because, before we know it, he will be gone.

The club will pay him handsomely for some time yet, he is only 21 and the key is he will have resale value for a good seven or eight years yet, so expect him around for a while if the club have any say so.

He is a product of the youth system and supposedly an Arsenal fan too, so I think he will do everything in his power to win things with us.
If this does not happen, can see him leaving around age 28 in before or after the 2019 - 2020 season.

I'm fairly confident he'll be a gunner for life. He gave Nasri too much abuse for being a greedy SOB. It would make him a hyporcrit.

FFS lads anybody who believes that he will be an AFC player for many years yet or for life is seriously deluding themselves   Nowadays the top players, and I mean really top players, are not motivated purely by money but also by winning trophies - jack may not be at that level yet but make no mistake he will reach that level (barring injuries) and when he does then it will be interesting to see how long he will stick around. This club, in its current guise, is not geared for on pitch success so if the policies remain the same then we will remain light years away from winning trophies and wilshere will be off :(

Some fans and the media might like to believe the bullshit spouted by wenker and the club that states of intent to compete with the best but players inside the club can see that for what it is. Players like jack and Cesc signed up at a time that we were overloaded with top players so can you imagine how they would have felt everytime they seen the club signed a player of the calibre of the forehead, santos etc ? Some fans might like to delude themselves by claiming that Cesc and rvp left for the money but most can see that they left cos of ambition and an acceptance that we were getting further away from success every single season and when jack establishes himself as a world talent then he will look at the state of our club and if positive changes haven't occurred in the meantime then he will be gone asap

I remember how Flamini always used to be a snarly nasty little prick when he came up against Cole and took any opportunity to snap him or get right up in his grill.

Also look at the comments Clichy made when Adebayor went to join Citeh.

Even if Jack is stupid enough to spend his entire career winning shag-all, sooner or later the decision will be taken out of his hands. The club may well end up flogging him if the money's good enough. Very sad bit I can see it happening.

I think he'll give it a go for a couple of seasons, but if we keep dropping and selling his mates, he'll just fuck off to greener pastures, just hope he goes abroad.

The vast majority of modern players are purely money-motivated greedy mercenaries. But the absolute top 5% or whatever, the cream, are also motivated by trophies. They know they can get the big money wherever they choose and they then add the chance of silverware into the equation. If Jack is ambitious at all (and does go onto the next level, which he should) he could only look at our manager/Board/financial set-up and leave for trophies. Sad, but true. :(

The once much-mooted cliche of "Any player that left Arsenal always regretted it" is long dead under Wenger - most of the ones that left in the last 5 years have gone on to actually (shock horror  ) win things... :|

He will be gone by 2015 unless we get a new manager and new owner who wants to finish higher than fourth. And remember his contract is £20k a week less than Walcott  he could treble that at Citeh and Chelsea

Not entirely convinced Wenger makes a direct cut from transfers to be fair...

Wilshere's never been a gooner, he's a West Ham fan and always has been. So was Adams though...

Not that it matters, but he said recently he was a Whammer until aged 9 then a Gooner since. Won't stop him leaving to win trophies though... :(

18 months, board will sell him to compensate themselves for the lack of Champions League cash. Probably along with Walcott and / or Cazorla as well.

I think we'll have him for at least the next couple of seasons. After that though, if we are still in the current limbo, then who could really blame him for wanting out. Money is one thing, but footballers are judged on the number of trophies won. No matter how much he loves Arsenal, there is no way he will or should retire in 15 years time with only the 4th place trophy to gloat about....
