Should we buy Demba Ba? [Poll]
If Ba is declared surplus to requirements at Chelsea, should we buy him?
28 years old, in the last two seasons he has scored 19 goals in his last 44 competitive games in England.
(For the purposes of the poll, I have left out any question about the size of a possible transfer fee as our transfer fees are often not disclosed.)

If we had to resort to buying Demba Ba it would mean the club had failed to land any of the better strikers currently available, which with the money there to spend would be inexcusable!
Why do I get the feeling this is what will happen.

Simply no.
I don't want no fucking Chelsea cast-offs. Besides we need a world class striker and he's not that man.
Higuain however is.

No, if we were going to sign him we should have got him either last summer or in January.
Re: Should we buy Demba Ba? [Poll]
In an ideal world we would sign a top quality striker, a top quality defensive midfielder, a julio cesar type of keeper (experienced quality type of keeper that will provide short term competition for chesney) and then if by some miracle we still had money in the kitty I would buy demba ba. For me he is a quality striker and he is streets better than anything we currently have (maybe not podolski but we aint playing him as a striker
). People forget that if we sign higuain, shrek or jovetic and one of them get injured then we will be back to giroud or the forehead again (assuming we cant/dont sell the c**t
) so ba would be a sensilble signing in that regard.
Anyway to sum up, I like him as a player but he isnt good enough to be be classed as our first choice striker and I believe we have other priority needs before we could consider buying a second striker

I think Madrid didn't want him either. If they do they would have asked him to stay. Nevertheless he is a striker who can score spectacular goals but I read that he is a big game bottler though1989 wrote:No, he asked to leave.defleppardisking wrote:Isn't Higuain also a Madrid cast-off?1989 wrote:Simply no.

Higuain feels underappreciated at Madrid and wants to go somewhere where he'll be loved - his own words.defleppardisking wrote:I think Madrid didn't want him either. Big game bottler? He scored a goal in the dying minutes that won Real Madrid the title in 2008, away from home, in a game they were losing while being 2 men down no less!
He's got a good record against the top Spanish teams as well.
Re: Should we buy Demba Ba? [Poll]
no I would not sign ba.
I don't rate him. For me he is on the same level as Giroud, both technically questionable, ropey finishing (ba misses plenty), Ba is faster and marginally the better finisher.
But who cares, they're both players who should not be playing at top ambitious clubs. When we already have a striker of giroud's ability why would we waste more money on a player like Ba.
Get Higgy in. Remember its not just the transfer fee its the wages, so even if we can't get a top striker in this summer, buying ba is not a good idea. Frankly there must be better options in Europe bar ba.

In reality we'll continue to play 1 up front so given that we already have Giroud and therefore if Ba is signed it will mean no more strikers. And we need a far better striker than Ba as the role is so demanding and so key for us. From that point of view definitely no.
In broader terms if we were willing to play 2 up front then I'd probably have him because the likes of Podolski, Walcott and Giroud have all failed to impress consistently up front and if you want to compete over a season playing 4-4-2 Citeh and United have shown that you may need 4 options that you'd be comfortable calling on up front.

Voted No....dodgy knees, scorer of great goals rather than a great goalscorer.

Re: Should we buy Demba Ba? [Poll]
With regard to the Higuain argument and some questioning his finishing, I saw some stats
and with relation to conversion rate (no penalties) season 2011-12 43%, 2012-13 32%
The average converison rate by a pl striker is 16%.
I know stats are sometimes misleading but this does seem extremely good, don't know girouds conversion rate but probably no more than average although his accuracy in terms of hitting supporters in row Z is 78%

Re: Should we buy Demba Ba? [Poll]
A "No" for me. Not sufficiently better than what we have to justify the huge salary he'd want to leave the chav. Haven't we enough average strikers being played out of position by The Master of TicTacs Sith Lord Venger?
We need a top top class striker, and Ba ain't that. We also need a manager that knows how to work a system to the strengths of the players he has, not wedge players into a fantasy system he likes.
Quartz, why no "Wenger out" option?
