Cholesterol/Statins

Post by olgitgooner »

Anyone who is worried about their Cholesterol level/takes Statins might be interested in the link below. It's a documentary thirteen minutes long.

If you can't be arsed to watch it, the key points are....

Nutritionist Ansell Keyes (father of American K Rations during WW2) decided that high "bad" Cholesterol created heart disease.

He proved his case by publishing statistics from six countries which "proved" this theory. He totally ignored the stats from sixteen other countries which didn't look good on his graph. But his work is enshrined in the Bible of Good Health. GP's are convinced. Even small children know that high Cholesterol is bad.

There are no large bodies of independent medical science researchers to challenge the Statin industry. When President Reagan was elected, he cancelled government funding. All the scientists now work for drug companies.

In the UK (thanks to Statins) our collective Cholesterol levels have decreased by 40% in recent decades. The incidence of heart attacks has remained exactly the same.

A recent survey of 137,000 heart attack victims in the USA shows that the vast majority had LOW Cholesterol levels.

The drug companies and the food industry are earning £billions. And we are being taken for a very unhealthy ride. Statins have side effects. Including the reduction of chemicals vital to a healthy heart (CoQ10 for example). Plus muscle atrophy. And more.

This is no conspiracy theory. It's a debate that's been going on within the medical professions for decades.

Cold pressed olive oil, coconut oil and oats can lower cholesterol.

So does grapefruit.

The point is that we don't need to lower Cholesterol at all. Low Cholesterol levels are not good for health.

I take your point Olgit.
I think though that certain Cholesterol levels if high can be an indicator of high stress?
We are treating the symptom not the problem.

I've been on the cholesterol merry go round for last 15 years and there are certain thing I've noticed through my own research.
1) cholesterol that is hereditary can be influenced by statins but never cures it. I've registered 10.8 -11.2, then dropped down to 6.2 when I started on the course of statins.
2) hereditary cholesterol will remain high regardless of weight, fitness, alcoholic intake or diet
3) when I take statins, I put weight on, I get tired more frequently, have more frequent stomach problems and I yearn to eat junk food, more frequently.
4) When I stop taking statins I have more energy, greater strength and I eat better.

My conclusion to this is simple, the statins take away the natural fat you need in your body, this includes good and bad cholesterol. You replace it by taking in more bad foods as the good foods doesn't replace enough of the bad cholesterol that you still need to keep you healthy. The combination of statins and bad food have a detrimental affect on your liver and can cause permanent liver damage. So, you can have a balanced diet and take moderate exercise whilst taking statins can improve your cholesterol, it will fuck up your liver. Don't take statins and have a balanced diet and exercise, which you will do as you have more strength, gives a higher cholesterol but a healthier liver. That's 15 years of personal research.

Excellent post.

The thing is that this whole business of "good" and "bad" Cholesterol is a load of bollocks. The concept was invented by a research scientist who wanted to make a name for himself. His research was flawed. His statistics were bent.

Generations of doctors have followed the Cholesterol Bible because they have been taught to believe in it. Doctors have been indoctrinated. They would still be prescribing Thalidomide if the side effects hadn't been so obvious.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with having high Cholesterol levels.
