Chelsea vs Arsenal
Now that we have seemed to come back to a point where we can buy a big name has the last 8 years damaged our reputation. To look at this closely lets look at who caused us the most problems.
Before Abramovich Chelsea were nothing at all. A team in our shadows who we beat time after time after time.
Lots of money gets pumped in their wages hit the roof and suddenly they start to win things. At first playing really boring football compared to what we were doing but as we slid into signing Chamakh and Silvestre and then selling our best players they went on to win the Champ League. Yes they did not deserve it buy hey ho.
Now we say we are back and ready to compete. Do the big stars take us seriously ?. How do the football world view Arsenal now ? Is the global vision of football put Chelsea as the bigger team due to their recent success ?
Money plays its part these days so the next couple of years will be interesting. I will never see Chelsea as anything other than a fake club who paid for trophies with money they never had.

Re: Chelsea vs Arsenal
All football fans (other than the armchair glory seeking wanker types) know that Arsenal are a shit load bigger than Chelsea, always have been and although one Champions League title does wonders for people's perception of their size, it isn't enough to put them ahead of a club that has (by and large) been successful since professional football began.
Players (assuming they know their stuff) will think the same. The trouble is that players don't really care about it now (they should do but alas the footballing world is littered with players going to smaller clubs just for money). If Chelsea offer more money they'll go there, if Arsenal offer more they'll go there. Some players actually value CL football (probably just for the exposure and the money that CL clubs can offer like) but obviously Arsenal and Chelsea both qualify for that pretty much every season so that won't be too much of a consideration.
The last 8 years will have stopped players seeing Arsenal as a club to go to if they want to compete for the title immediately but the continued CL appearances and the history of the club will mean they are still a very attractive proposition, maybe not for the very top stars (who tend to go to Real / Barca anyway) but I certainly think that if (and its a big if) the club start throwing money around they will be just as attractive a prospect to players as Chelsea. All it might take is for one big name star to buy into it (like Higuain) and the rest will follow if the money is there.

Do the big stars take us seriously ?
If your on about the players, which I think you are, then up to a point I would say no, big stars don't take us seriously. We are now pretty much a steeping stone in the footballing world, meaning that we get players of low quality, some improve and end up at a better club, and then go on to win things. In terms of achieving success at Arsenal, I don't believe anyone can honestly say they seriously expect to compete for the PL and CL whilst here.
However, if 'big stars' get offered ludicrous wages from us (yeah right) then they will begin to take us seriously in the transfer market.
How do the football world view Arsenal now ?
A selling club, concentrating on making profit and producing young talent before trophies
Is the global vision of football put Chelsea as the bigger team due to their recent success ?
I don't understand the term 'bigger' in terms of a football club. If you mean in terms of fan base size, then I would say we are the bigger club, as we easily have more fans worldwide. However, if you mean bigger in terms of recent success, then of course Chelsea are the bigger club, as we have sat on our arses watching them win the CL and PL twice, whilst complaining that they have spent money to win things. I'm sorry, but that's the way football has gone now and there is sod all anyone can do about it, and I'm sure if a rich oil tycoon did the same for Arsenal, there would be very few complaints.
Just my penny's worth.

Say what you like, but the history books will forever have them down as the first London team to win the CL.supergeorgegraham wrote:I will never see Chelsea as anything other than a fake club who paid for trophies with money they never had.
Do big players take us seriously? No. We are not an attractive proposition for elite players anymore because we neither win trophies nor pay the top wages. The really top level players will be drawn to Utd/Chelsea/City for these reasons, we might be able to attract players a level or two below the real top stars, Cazorla etc.

In some ways I wish we were making history rather than reminiscing about it

Re: Chelsea vs Arsenal
Chelsea may seem fake right now but in 10/20 years time when they are still winning trophies no body will care/will have forgotten how they did it,all that will matter will be that Chelsea are a massive club(im talking in 20 years time)and that we are still a big club but not as big as Chelsea unless we can turn this wenker led slump aroundDan_85 wrote:Say what you like, but the history books will forever have them down as the first London team to win the CL.supergeorgegraham wrote:I will never see Chelsea as anything other than a fake club who paid for trophies with money they never had.

One thing you cant take away from our club is class. If you take a look at that incident where our bus stopped to let that Vietnam fan on it shows that we do the right thing.
So far we have shifted alot of useless players most recently Santos so something good is going on. Lets hope we get back to winning ways because thats Arsenal FC. Our history is full of class and success unlike City and Chelsea.

Over the course of the last 8 years I have become less and less sure of that.supergeorgegraham wrote:One thing you cant take away from our club is class.

Mostly but not always.supergeorgegraham wrote:One thing you cant take away from our club is class.
For the last eight years we have promised great things and delivered much less whilst charging a fortune for seats.
Too, we failed to carry over the original North Bank bonds to the new stadium.
And I think it was Eddie Hapgood whom we did not look after that well when he fell on hard times.
But yes, the club does do a lot of good work for charities and community projects and deserves credit for that.

Real class would have been stopping after a couple of kilometers to let him on, not letting the poor guy run a whole 5k!!supergeorgegraham wrote:One thing you cant take away from our club is class. Spot on. In fact they are already considered bigger than us by players, managers, the media and most foreign fans of the Premier League that, to quote Sam Cooke, "Don't know much about history". Although most knowledgeable British supporters know the score, if things continue as they are then the truth is soon it will be only Arsenal fans claiming they are the top club in London in the way that some Spuds think they are top dogs in North London.markyp wrote:Chelsea may seem fake right now but in 10/20 years time when they are still winning trophies no body will care/will have forgotten how they did it,all that will matter will be that Chelsea are a massive club(im talking in 20 years time)and that we are still a big club but not as big as Chelsea unless we can turn this wenker led slump aroundDan_85 wrote:Say what you like, but the history books will forever have them down as the first London team to win the CL.supergeorgegraham wrote:I will never see Chelsea as anything other than a fake club who paid for trophies with money they never had.

I beg to differ. Change class to history and it would be more accurate.
The very fact that we are touring a continent with a view to making money, and not really bothering to embrace the culture in the process, let alone undestand the history, speaks volumes.
Had the bus chasing supporter incident not been reported/social media/you tube, then we could just as well as run the bugger over for all the money making bandwagon was concerned.
Our recent history has no class and even less success. IN MY OPINION.
Re: Chelsea vs Arsenal

Chelsea.. getting a trophy for winning a friendly in malaysia

This is by far worse than our Emirates cup..

Re: Chelsea vs Arsenal
I think Arsenal going to Asia is a good thing because our fan base there is massive and they get the chance to see the team. We just go online buy a ticket and head to the Emirates.
Think of it like a band that make a cracking album and take it on tour. Yes we have won nothing for 8 years which is disgraceful but we help out charities and do things that make Arsenal that bit above Chelsea and City. Man Utd are in a league of their own but we got close between 97 and 2004. Yes we are a financial powerhouse but if the money finally transfers to the team then its a good thing.
