The Emirates Cup 2013

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

The Emirates Cup 2013

Post by OneBardGooner »

Apologies to the Mods if there is already a thread on this, I looked but couldn't see one.

My reason for starting this is NOT to publicise it, but to see what the ground swell is in terms of making our voices known as to Wenger & Co's utter lack of (Genuine) activity in this summer's transfer market, especially after Gazidis promised we would be 'very active' and that we would be 'spending big'.

While I'm sure like me, many Gooners attending will just be glad to see some live football again, but perhaps it is also an opportunity (before the transfer window closes) to let Wenger & Co know - Enough IS Enough and that we are all watching and waiting.

Worthing_Gooner used the term "Tick Tock Wenger" in one of his posts on the transfer thread, and it struck me that, it is an ideal phrase to use at this point....

If anyone wishing to could take a large piece of paper (A3 is a good visible size and can be 'smuggled' in - and write on the in BIG Bold Capitals

"TICK
TOCK
WENGER"

The media would definitely pick up on it, and if there were quite a few littered around the bowl, so much the better, if the gestapo stewards come along simply fold it up and stash away.

There is still time to remind' Wenger & Co that the clock really IS ticking and we have had enough of his broken promises and lies.

The timetable is as follows:

EMIRATES CUP 2013

Saturday 3rd August 2013
Galatasaray vs FC Porto (2pm)
&
Arsenal vs Napoli (4:20pm)

Sunday 4th August 2013 - SOLD OUT
Napoli vs FC Porto (2pm)
&
Arsenal vs Galatasaray (4:20pm)

Tick Tock Wenger

I'll be there on the Sunday. Hope AW and IG get both barrels when, if as I expect, we lose to both Napoli and Gala...

A Higuain hatrick would make things tasty.

Ill be there on sat with my nephew and niece (aged 8 and 5). I don't want them exposed to the scum turks so will prob walk in towards the end of the second half of the first game. Hopefully they will leave for our game.

I can honestly say I have never seen so much trouble than before the UEFA cup final vs this rabble, I know its a friendly but don't want to take any risks.

Yeah, funny how they've arranged the games so we don't have to play against his team.

From my own point of few (as a long in the tooth Gooner) I could never see myself attending this but a couple of weeks ago I did wonder if I should consider bringing my two kids to these games. Because of that I went online to check how ticket sales were going and to my complete astonishment the games were practically sold out   Seeing as many season Gooners on here had previously voiced their contempt for this competition, I figured that there will be a whole lot of "jcl's/newbies/tourists" present so if you are mooting some sort of protest to turn the heat up then I would suggest this aint the weekend for it

Just to get our point across we could all do the Fergie wrist watch tapping gesture and chant

"Tick Tock Wenger
Last of the No Spenders"

Mate, you obviously weren't in Paris for the ECWC semi-final v PSG in 93/94. Now that was mayhem!!

Very true. This will be a Wenger love in, plenty of picture taking going on, the mexican wave and maybe even a rendition of that classic Elvis track beforehand................

I attended up until 2011...... then we had some thing called the Olympics which caused the cancellation of last years event. To be honest I didn't even contemplate going this year, it's just a commercial exercise and 75% of the supporters there would not normally attend any matches.
I wouldn't bother with trying to show our disenchantment at this PR stunt. better waiting til the NLD especially if it doesn't go our way.... the media will pick up on it and have a field day!
Wenger would take no notice of a few jeers at the Emirates cup, and it definitely would not force him into spending on at least two world class players.
To be honest I couldn't give a fuck what he does now if he spends all well and good, if he doesn't and is forced to fall on his own sword so be it!

Could make for quite a simple but effective banner with the famous old clock on it set to a couple minutes to midnight, if one of you photoshop nerds is bored enough to get to work on it. Dan?

"Dan. Dan. Dan! Daaan? DAN!! DAAAAN?!!"
