German Bundesliga and other Foreign Leagues Thread

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

German Bundesliga and other Foreign Leagues Thread

Post by Tomáš »

Hi Gooners,
I thought maybe we can use this as an Bundesliga collection thread throughout the season because some of you are following the German league and it is easier to have comments in a central place. If you don't want it please feel free to delete.
The first leg happened over the weekend and the runners up Hertha BSC Berlin smashed Frankfurt with a spectacular 6:1. Triple winner Bayern Munich finished only fourth place

If you want to 'support' a team but you don't know which yet, here is a decision making helping chart

All the best from Germany.
Cheers,
Thomas

I enjoyed the chart (despite many if not most of the cultural references being lost on me) - particularly the swipe at those war criminals at Bayer

Can't say I've ever followed Bundesliga much - although my brother lived near the Swiss border for two years so he follows Stuttgart as that's who most people supported where he was. He still plays some sort of fantasy football game with his mates that he swears is much better than the ones over here (seems a bit more like the American style fantasy football bonanza).

We do welcome fans of other teams and other leagues on here - within reason. Thomas and our Mackem mate have made great contributions to this forum and are valued guests. This is an Arsenal forum though, so we would not accept the Scum or the Chav or Manure or the Mouser setting up their own threads - but I'm happy enough to let this one stay if the regulars are happy for it to stay?

Hi,
I know what you mean. I just thought that it is maybe interesting to have an collection thread for German footie. Initially I thought to open it in 'The Cannonballs' but the description says 'everything except football'. Like I said, if you don't think that it should stay here then please delete.

Cheers,
Thomas

Bang goes my "I luv the Spuds" thread then

I reckon it's good to get a cross section of info/opinons from fans of other teams (within reason), it helps broaden one's knowledge. Plus, FTM is one of the funniest posters on here and it's good to get the skinny on Bundesliga players from Tomas so no problems here.

How do you like Aubameyang after Saturday then Tomas?! We were linked with him and I thought he would be another typical Wenger French/African signing. Was Saturday a one off or can he keep this goal scoring form up?!

Hi Dan,
nobody from the average 'Fans' relay knew him before  so we were not quit sure. But you could see already in the pre-season games that he can be a weapon. He is definitely quick on the counter attacks, but he can also play against teams which are settled deep in the defense. I think he is not a one hit wonder and he is for sure a player who can make a difference and most important who can work with Klopp way of playing football. Here is a link for more information:

Also in the German league we have a debate about handball or not (Bayern and HSV getting one) and a not given goal for Hoffenheim against Nuernberg (ball was half foot clearly behind the line). I've read that from this season on you will have the 'Hawk Eye' System in the PL?!

Cheers,
Thomas

I support this thread but it should be renamed into "Djourou-Coquelin League Thread" :barscarf:

I've to admit I had to use google

Coquelin played one half but he was substitued after 45 minutes and Kicker gave him a (5) (German school system 1 is the best 6 the worst, 5 is pretty bad  )

Johan Djourou requires groin surgery
http://www.hsv.de/en/season/meldungen/b ... n-surgery/
but he should play in the starting squad of HSV once he is fit again

perfect.

that alone makes the thread worth having. 10 years at Arsenal and I don't think he made a full season.

Dont mind DB10 tomas - the short arsed dublin dickhead was just another power surge/small man syndrome campaign

As a footie fan (not just The Gooners) I like watch football from other countries when I can. I like dortmund partially cos I have never liked bayern but also because I like the way a smallish club can upset the odds and defeat those mega money w**kers 8) I like the way klopp operates and the way he has his team playing for him and I respect the way, when you sell a player for big money (kagawa, gotze etc) that money is invested back into the team (reus and that new striker ye bought in the summer 8) ). On the flip side I thought that gotze totally stabbed dortmund in the back - it was bad enough him leaving to join bayern (especially when he could have gone to any of europe's top clubs) but to negotiate and then announce the deal mid season (right before champs league semi) was bad form imo
