Wilshere would consider Arsenal future if Arsene Wenger left

Post by MrT »

Jack Wilshere has launched a strong defence of Arsene Wenger - saying his Arsenal future would be uncertain if the manager left the club.

The England midfielder's comments come amid growing unrest at the Emirates after yet another summer that has seen minimal activity in the transfer window - despite promises that large sums of money would be spent.

A defeat in the opening Premier League game of the season at home to Aston Villa only exacerbated the situation - seeing many supporters leave the stadium early, chant about spending money and booing the team.

The Arsenal Supporters' Trust went as far as to issue a statement saying offering Wenger a new contract at this time would be "inappropriate".

Yet Wilshere stands by Wenger and says criticism of the current longest serving manager in the Premier League is "ridiculous".

"I want to win things with Arsenal and I want to be there in the future, but if the boss leaves then things could change," Wilshere told Zapsportz.com.

"Arsenal are always in my heart and by signing a deal for the next five years shows my commitment to them and their commitment to me so at the moment everything is good.

"Arsene Wenger has been there for so many years and he's always delivered trophies.

"OK we've had a little dip in the last five or six years, but he's a great manager and people who question his ability are ridiculous.

"He's qualified for the Champions' League for 16 years so I think he's the right man for the job."
Don't let the door hit you on the way out mate.

 footballers should sometimes just keep their mouths shut like, they just can't help sounding stupid. Wenger has "always delivered trophies" has he Jack? Funny that since he hasn't delivered one for 8 years - seeing as how he's been there, what, 17 years or so, he's actually failed to win a trophy in pretty much one out of every 2 seasons, wouldn't call that "always delivering" for a club like Arsenal who should be capable of competing for 4 each season. Having had a look its 7 trophies in 17 years assuming you discount the charity shield, nice one Jack.

Yeah that line just makes him look like a twat.

You can accept that just about any player will give a token defence of their manager but this is going to piss a hell of a lot of fans off and makes him look delighted with mediocrity. I normally don't care too much what players say but there's no way I'll have any sympathy with him next time he looks exasperated when his team-mates keep giving the ball away.

What would annoy me if I was a gooner is that he says he wants to win things, is defending the manager but if the manager stays and continues not to win things, Wilshere would be one of the first to go seeking a move away and would come out with all of the "I love the club but I really want to be winning trophies" line. He should just accept that he doesn't have any more knowledge of what is right for AFC than most of the fans, to effectively suggest he might leave if Wenger goes is counter productive, if the right decision is for Wenger to leave then it should have nothing to do with Jack Wilshere and he'd be better keeping quiet, seeing who comes in and, you never know, he might just find that the trophies come after all.

Just paving the way for an inevitable transfer to one of the bigger clubs and using Wenger's departure as a ready made excuse. He'll be gone one day....either next Summer (unlikely) or a couple of years of later.....so when he goes to Man City or Chelsea he can claim it was down to the change of manager

My thoughts exactly, besides, even if this was a more well-known paper, I wouldn't believe another word of it after the bollocks they have been spouting over transfers in recent months.

However, if he did say this, I am very disappointed and can't believe he could say such a thing, bearing in mind Wenger hasn't won a trophy since Jack has been playing first team football. But it's most likely bullshit so I won't get too worked up about this.

As soon as Arsenal fail to get into the CL, Jack will be off anyway!! He's not going to hang about if Utd/City/Chavs are offering 180k a week and a great chance to win something!!

What we need to remember is that Jack is still a young lad and though he has oodles of talent in the footie department, he is still young and niaive about many things in life and since he has been with The Arsenal since he was 9 yrs of age he doesn't really know how other managers work (except those Englan managers and Roy & Fabio are not great examples etc)...Still like everyone else - Life will teach him gradually....and as someone else has already said wenger & the board wouldn't hesitate to sell him if it suited thier purposes ie; Nice tidy BIG profit.

I can understand his loyalty and wanting to publicly do his bit to defend Wenger (who for all sense & purposes has been his Father/Guiding figure in football) - it might even be argued that Jack came through the initial academy system when Arsenal were at their peak and was able to watch the like sof Denis & TH14 & PV4 behind closed doors in training etc...

Still he'll learn and I hope he does decide to stay when wenger eventually f*cks off....but as I have said before I can easily see Barcawhores/manure/$hitty coming in for him this tim next year and if their offer is a decent one wenger&co will snap their hand off... Sad, but True.

IF there is any truth to that story then pack your bags and get the fcuk out of our club - this is our club, not yours and certainly not that of a self serving arrogant fish hole so if you would rather play for him than for us then pish off
