Sunderland vs. Arsenal (14th September)

Post by Red Gunner »

Sunderland are 19th and they still haven't won in the league. Losing against Fulham (0-1 home) and Crystal Palace (3-1 away), they drew against Southampton (1-1 away). Paolo Di Canio is the favourite in the sack race (3/1).

Hopefully we'll be seeing some new signings in this match

Flamini will likely make an appearance

Can't see past an easy Arsenal win this season. Di Canio has come in, made the right noises about needing players with a good attitude etc, brought 11 players in (and counting) but still we look woefully short. Losing Mignolet to Liverpool was a blow, especially since Westwood seems incapable of ever coming off his line for a set piece, leading to us conceding from more than one corner already. Despite all the new signings our last game (defeat to Palace) had us starting about 8 of last years players.

Being positive at least Fletcher should be fit (he came on and scored at palace and with a couple weeks training he should be ready to go) and hopefully Altidore will be back but O'Shea will miss out following his red card at Palace. Sessegnon has just been charged with drink driving and looks likely to be sold anyway (he'll struggle to drink where he's going, looks like a £5m move to Qatar).

Likely team:

Westwood
Celustka Diakite Roberge Colback (unless we actually sign a left back)
Johnson Gardner Ki Giacherrini
Altidore
Fletcher

Likely result: Sunderland 0 Arsenal 3.

We're shit.

35 league games to go until his contract expires :barscarf:

We never have it easy up there so I'd settle for any sort of win. Hopefully the team sheet will make for interesting reading.

I hate to say it but I agree...signing Ozil was a master stroke - He now gets to play at being a manager for another 5 years!  :cussing: :banghead: :?

What are your thoughts on Di Canio's continued handling of the press? Bit ridiculous 3 games in to the season that he's reverted to criticising individuals (like with O'Shea) and still taking pot-shots at the players' motivation.
