A good pub for a good idiot

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

A good pub for a good idiot

Post by TheTourist »

Hi guys,

I'm new to this place. I often read the articles of the website (also funny reactions on match topics  ), but I never took the time to register to contribute.

I'm a foreign fan, and I come to the Emirates regularly using my Red membership and some airplanes. As we were drawn against Bayern and thus had two consecutive home matches, I booked my flight/hotel for the week to see Arsenal-Bayern and Arsenal-Sunderland.

Unfortunately, I missed the opening hour (Monday, 10:00) for ticket sales like an idiot, and I will spend my 19th of February wandering foolishly in the streets of London. Well, I might get a ticket from Ticket Exchange, but the probability is as high as the one of Bendtner (or Theo, to be even more realistic :-P ) scoring a hat-trick during the night.

Whew, I'm screwed. However, while you will be enjoying your live Bayern-thrashing, I will be in a pub somewhere in London, probably near the Emirates.
Could you give me the name of a great pub filled with enthusiastic Gooners? I would be very happy to join them for the night

Thanks, fellow Gooners, and have a nice Wednesday :)

Welcome :D

There is a pub not far from the Emirates called "The Gunners"

Probably the most Arsenal pub in the world, great atmosphere and they show all the games live :barscarf:

any of the pubs on blackstock rd. or holloway rd. should be rocking on game day. "The Gunners" pub on blackstock is a good one, my favorite is "phibbers" on holloway rd. right next to piebury corner ...mm...pies....damn good, bloody good, damn good pies! :D

enjoy game day!

The '12 Pins' next to Finsbury Park station is a good place to watch a match, but it gets very busy and you would need to arive early to be sure of gaining entry.

To be honesy, you can't really fail with most of the pubs in the area - but if you want a big crowd and decent atmosphere I recommend the 12 pins

Yes just head to the area around the ground. You get the pre match atmosphere around the ground and a far better atmosphere in the pubs than you would at the game, and you don't have to pay the extortionate Cat A Prices. It's a win-win Situation as far as I'm concerned :barscarf: :barscarf: :barscarf:

AND you can drink DURING the game!! slamming beers at half time is not nearly as fun as drinking for the full 90!

Pins is probably the best for atmosphere but expect to get drenched in beer if we score a late winning goal in any of the games.......yes I know that's highly unlikely for the Bayern game but we can dream.

Anyway welcome to the asylum and in case you haven't noticed yet, the warders have left and we are running things ourselves BE VERY AFRAID   :barscarf: :barscarf:

I know we have played some good football this season but I did not realise it had quite that effect on some fans

Yep you're right it seems crazy, but I misused "regularly", and made a great English mistake :-P
I only come to London once or twice a year, and I don't spend my whole stay in Islington buying Arsenal kits  I like the city very much since my father brought me there a few years ago, and I just can't stop coming back every year.

Other than that, you have to know the total cost of traveling to central London from my home and coming back (by plane + train) is just about 130€ (= £105). This is less expensive for me than going to any other big city in Europe, thanks to EasyJet :D

If you have not done so, take a guided tour river boat along the Thames from Westminster pier to Greenwich, it is a good way to see the city and there are things to do at Greenwich too- naval museum, Cutty Sark, Royal Observatory etc.

Haven't been down Greenwich way for years! I do think some of us who've lived here for as long as we can remember take the city of London for granted and forget what great places and attractions there are here. Enjoy your visit Tourist! :barscarf:

Do you mind me asking which country you're from by the way?

If we beat Coventry and get a home draw in next round of cup there will be more tickets going on sale due to season ticket holders not taking the tickets for the Bayern game, as not all will want to shell out for extra Cat A match
