Stadium tour with a legend...

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Post by RocastleRock »

The missus got me this as a gift for me to go some time this year... As im not that old tho ive never actually seen any of the legends play apart from on video or dvd ofcourse so its hard to choose which one..

Anyone been on the tour? what did you think?

Think its going to charlie george tho wish i could have been Wrighty or Tony adams.. or anyone from around that time. im sure it will still be great.

The problem with that Rocky is that they're both still involved with other things, and altho Wrighty would be a cracker I'm not so sure about big Tone doin it and anyway they're also both multi-millionaires so I'm not sure whether they'd want to do it, especially as it doesn't even involve N5 anymore!
I think it used to be one of three who usually did the Highbury tour, Charlie George, Kenny Sansom and ..... can't remember the other one at the minute!

Did the tour with Charlie last summer. As an 8/9 year old I remember being in awe of him. The Arse had done the double in 1971 and everyone wanted to be Charlie when we played footy. My brother smashed our shed window to pieces when reliving Charlies famous shot - I was Ray Clemence in goal!!! Waiting in the entrance to the Diamond Club level last July, (aged 45 now!) it was still one hell of a buzz when Charlie appeared. He cracked a few jokes about the scum and then I thought 'f**k me! its John Radford!! as well! I expected everyone to be diehard Gooners but of course lots of people on these tours are just football fans visiting London. I wasted no time in photos with John and Charlie, both of whom were modest and happy to stop and pose etc. Charlie was fantastic - every bit the character I had heard of and imagined him to be. Full of jokes and very honest, not afraid to criticise but still a great ambassador for the club that he so clearly loves. We had a chat about the modern fan and the cost of attending games-it really was a pleasure and of course, the tour of the stadium was great too. I shook his hand at the end and went straight into the club shop where I bought his autobiograhy, all the more graphic having just met him. I also discovered when reading that I attended his last game for Arsenal, an away game at Coventry, 1976 I think? No doubt he has his off days but I cant recommend the tour enough- Charlie George is, without doubt, an Arsenal Legend!
