Previous Liverpool v Arsenal matches (Anfield)

Certainly Anfield is no longer the intimidating place that it used to be back in the day

4 previous visits for me 2 wins a draw and a defeat.

1st was in 1989 in the cup where we outplayed, outsung and had a late "winning" goal a Marwood half volley chalked off for fuck knows what. We had the entire Anfield Road end and were singing at the end " will you come to Higbury" such was our dominance.

But that performance, including a Rocky rocket showed the team and indeed the fans that they could compete with the best (that's what they were at the time, 25 years ago) and ultimately we then came to

26/5/1989 http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=pl ... jiBIdtUKhs

Nothing more to say than I was there, it will always be my favourite football memory (quite possibly my favourite memory ever)

2 years later and we got another famous victory with Merse playing a lovely 1-2 with Smith before slotting home which gave us the impetus for another title win

My last visit was a 2-0 defeat when Parlour made his debut (and gave away a penalty)

Share your memories my Gooner brethren :barscarf:

Only been once - 2001/02. Think it was 23rd December, certainly was a Sunday right before Christmas at any rate.

Have to say it's one of my favourite games ever. We lost to Newcastle at home a few days before and forget Sky Sports "most unpredictable season ever" bollocks they come up with every year, halfway through that season and there were 4 or 5 teams knocking around up there. This was a massive massive massive game and we had been on the end of a few unfortunate scorelines in preceding years at Anfield.

Durkin sent van Bronckhorst off in the first half - second yellow for diving. I remember it being incredibly harsh and remember Gio certainly didn't appeal. Nonetheless we scored a pen just before half time, think Dudek brought down Freddie and could well have walked himself. I also remember Cole managing to clear one off the line despite tripping over his own feet!

Ljungberg's goal was again, one of my favourite ever. Pires absolutely mugged off Gerrard and cut the ball across for Freddie to turn in at the near post and he ran along the fans who were going absolutely ballistic (half of us had Santa hats on as I remember  ). Even though they pulled a goal straight back from a sliced shot looping up for Litmanen to tap in at the far post we held on for nearly the whole second half with 10 men.

Was a huge result in the context of the season and especially the way in which we played most of it with 10 men.

Last time I went we lost 2-0 near the start of 1999/2000. One of TH14's first games out on the wing and he was bloody awful !

How things changed :barscarf:

Gave up on Anfield after that. I bring us nothing but bad luck up there :(

Sadly There's Only One's habit of sticking strikers out on the wing hasn't changed

Jesus, I remember our record being barren up there but didn't realise it was quite that bad!

Been 3 times - 2 wins and a loss. Wasn't there in 89 but dearly wished I had been. Mate let me down for tickets. :(

St Michael slotting it is still the greatest moment ever. :barscarf: 8)

Only been once, I think it was 2004/5, when Mellor (who of course went on to such great things) scored a last minute winner. We were fairly poor but the goal we scored was a wonderful example of the sort of team goal the invincibles were capable of, Henry and Pires combining to set up Vieira for a dinked little chip.

Up to that point I also though the whole 'mind yer car for a fiver mate' was a stereotypical urban myth, but it does actually go on, and scousers really do go 'errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr' before answering any question, even a simple one like, 'do you want fries with that la'.

Anfield is a shithole.

That 90/91 game was fantastic, Seaman made some ridiculous saves to keep us in the game in the first half.

Not as good as 'Wenger's greatest ever achievement' of last season's 4th place trophy my friend

2007 was pretty cool. Basically fcuking up liverpools season in about 4 days?

Beat them in the cup 3-1, when rosicky scored 2 and henry 1...I went to that one.

Then Baptista scored 4 and missed a penalty in a 6-3 win in the league cup a matter of days later.

The 6-3 was amazing in that Aliadiere and Baptista both looked like fucking world beaters that day. Honestly, young Jeremie was outstanding that night.

First time was August 1985, liverpool were still the best team in Europe and of course, we got beat. Don't think teams even got a draw at Anfield then.
Remember it was a no no to get the train into Lime Street unless you were mob handed. Little scallies picked you off as soon as you got off the train.
On the way back to the station after the game, in a police escort, the OB didn't want to let me and my mate go off on our own (skinny little 18 year olds then!) rather than get the train to London (as we were staying in Manchester at the time) cos he was worried about us getting a good hiding.
As someone has mentioned, if you went in the car, you always had the scousers ask for money to look after your car. Don't know if that still goes on??
Best night of my footballing life and never to be beaten was May 1989. I was lucky enough to be sitting right behind that goal that night. Unbelievable!!

The place must have rubbed off on me as i married a scouser many years later.
Will be back at Anfield again tomorrow

Feb 11th 1984 and my 16th Birthday

Used to go to loads of aways at the time at thought we'd be able to have a mooch around town as we got the service train, no chance, straight into the hands of Merseyside's finest and herded onto shitty green buses and at the ground an hour before kick-off, sat in the seat in the Anfield Road end next to the away support standing area, there didn't seem to be any segregation in there and the canteen area underneath was :box: all through the game, so a burger or pie was out of the question.

As for the game I think we scored first Rix?? but ended up losing 2-1 which was no surprise as our record was shite up there at the time.

As a postscript after being herded back to Lime St we were held at the station with over an hour till on train was due to leave, me and mate managed to sneak out a side door an went to the local Wimpy bar, nothing had ever tasted as good having gone all day without eating, and our fake scouse accents managed to past muster so we got back just in time to catch the train home.
